That's what the handbrake is for dumbass.

1. Put car in first with foot on clutch, foot on brake, pull up handbrake with button depressed.
2. Take foot off brake, and rev the engine slightly, all while releasing the e-brake and releasing the clutch.

No extra clutch wear.

that is a lot of work, why not just use the regular brakes?

You got three feet?

Heel and Toe FTW!

Ok so it's not exactly easy to start heel and toe due to pedal heigts, but downshifting under hard breaking while rev matching is fun.

huh?

Of course.

Slipping the clutch like that will cause extreme wear, compared to normal use.

I concur. You never know when Vinnie the Legbreaker will roll his Cadillac right up to your bumper, and you don't want to scratch his paintjob. 😉

😕

Apparently.

The only time I touch my e-brake is when I park.

I bet I don't even roll backwards an inch, even on a steep incline.. And I drive a 1/2 ton pickup.

What if you are parallel parked, and the guy down the hill from you was a dumbass and parked approximately 0.00001 inches away?

I just bought a car today and it's my first manual. This thread is very entertaining! ('95 Impreza AWD)

actually i'd consider anyone who still needs to use the handbrake to be a grade A stick-noob.

Drivers in Europe use this method all the time. If you roll back at all during a driving test there, you automatically fail.

And with a some practice it's not difficult to keep from rolling backwards even without the handbrake.

Doesn't feel like it, I don't have a ruler or anything to check with. It really doesn't feel like I roll back at all.

Well, that's easy -- you just roll back very slowly until you are resting on the dumbass' front bumper. Then you don't have to worry about rolling AT ALL when you go to shift into 1st!

ROTFLMAO. T3h winnar! 😛
Manual transmissions rock. Wish I had one instead of an automatic now 🙁

Oh and OP? Your friends or whatever that have differing opinions on this.... the guys that say anything other than "no, it's a bad idea noob" are bad drivers.
