For healthy active people 2000mg-4000mg a day is all you need. Less is not enough, and more might have potential side effects (due to genetics that some people might have but not know)

I take 4x1200mg per day as recommended on the bottle. It's very good to take.

Is there an advantage to taking fish oil tablets instead of eating fish a couple of times a week, and having some walnuts every day to get omega 3?

If you eat the right kind of fish and nuts in sufficient quantity you wouldn't have to eat the pills. My family doesn't like oily fish enough for me to get the omega 3 from natural sources, though I could eat fish many times a week if it were left to me.

I take the ones that say "No fish burps!" and its true, I don't get the nasty fish burps anymore. They cost just a little more than the other ones that don't say that, but it is well worth it IME.

Like vitamins, dubious benefits but it's cheap enough that you can flip and coin and maybe take them. I generally do but I ran out a couple months ago and haven't bothered yet to get anymore. I will next time I remember.

I stopped taking them because the fish burps. I might have to look into this kind.

I haven't tried those ones because they cost more. I do know that the oft-recommended approach of freezing them is entirely ineffective, as one would think (not like something so small can stay frozen for long).

I think they are worth it for health reasons and I also believe they keep me looking a little thinner. I'll bump up to 6-8 a day in the winter to help my skin.

Just get these Nutraplanet Bulk Fish Oil Caps: 180 mg EPA/120 mg DHA, 1000 softgels per bag for $25

Ya, that's right. I get 1000 of them for $25. You can't afford not to take them. -- Also, Nutraplanet is a well respected site among bodybuilders so you know you are getting good stuff. You gotta be careful with some of the cheaper oils. If they use old fish they can be high in heavy metal content.

Wow, that's a pretty good deal. What does shipping run on that? I don't want to start an account with them just to get the price of shipping.

6 bucks I believe. I get all my supps except for protein and vitamins (multi, C, l-lysince, etc) from them. Great company in my opinion. Plus on my last order I got a free shaker bottle, and about 9 different samples of various supplements.

I haven't taken fish oil in a few years, but when I did, I got to the point where I was buying higher quality caps which promised less burps but contained much more DHA & EPA, so I didn't have to take so many of them. The saturation dose of DHA is 1.2 g/day, if you're taking a combined DHA/EPA supplement. That's 10 standard fish oil caps, 3000 mg total.

I think these things go rancid on store shelves more often than people would expect, I have gotten some unbelievably foul bottles in the past. So watch out for that.

Link to studies showing that? I definitely don't want any trouble with my liver.

I love a hot deal as much as the next guy, but can I be assured this kind doesn't give me the fish burps? TIA.

I plan on buying some fish oil next round of purchasing, but will simply put the caps in the freezer.
