someone among us says it is:

You guys wonder why these forums are 95+% male - these babe threads are just one of the things that many women find offensive about the place. Some put up with it or ignore it, the rest go elsewhere. They don't want to read comments like "I'd DHITB" -DrPizza

Maybe begin to come to the realization that this many females find this place to be a sexist, hostile environment? DrP

so, are we sexist and hostile?

Most self professed women posters are either bombarded by requests for :camera: or tore apart because posters think they aren't women at all. And for the rest they are chronically nagged by some poster or another because they are easy targets.

We've scared away a good number of female posters among the years.

AT isn't hostile at all. BTW it's POLL not POLE you dumb motherfucker, and if you make that mistake again I'll jab out your eyes with a salad fork and skull fuck you. Like I said... nothing but friendlies around these parts.

None of the above. I do still get people referring to me as "he"/"him" etc, from time to time though. Not sure how much more explicit I need to be that I'm not a guy 😛.

Ditto. I just ignore it now as a lot of the kids have never seen how it is in the real world. There are LOTS of women in tech and professional fields. 🙂

I certainly hope my college experience is not indicative of the real world.

Put it this way: Nearly all of my engineering classes lacked a gender ratio.

Lol, I remember an ATOT post a few weeks ago, where someone was asking if people would let a mod date their daughter, and you ended up on the list of potential dateable mods .

Online forums are almost always hostile to some degree. People that have enough interest to spend their time posting online tend to be more enthusiastic about certain topics. This inevitably leads to some hostility.

But sexist? Eh. There are a lot of immature people on this forum, no doubt, but largely I think most people are respectful. I certainly wouldn't mind the trolls that just post nasty remarks to leave the forum as they don't contribute to the discussion.

Sorry, but despite what Rubycon is saying you'll likely find the gender imbalance to still be present. There simply aren't that many women in technical fields, especially American women. You'll find a lot more Asian women in technical fields than anything else.

Note I'm referring primarily to highly qualified positions, not technical support, etc. This is no reflection on women of course, but rather just the stereotypes that a lot of women seem to want to avoid.

Of course it's far from 50/50 but everyone (ok most of you!) believe that technically capable women are about as common as a pangasius sanitwongsei.
