Ditto. I just ignore it now as a lot of the kids have never seen how it is in the real world. There are LOTS of women in tech and professional fields. :)
I certainly hope my college experience is not indicative of the real world.

Put it this way: Nearly all of my engineering classes lacked a gender ratio.

Mine were pretty even.

Now that I'm in immunology, there is almost a female bias...that goes away once you reach the professor level, though.

ATOT is sexist in the same way that the Old West was sexist...it's controlled anarchy, and so the more forceful and dominant personalities tend to do better. Introspection and overt friendliness, not so much.

I still consider 95% of people claiming to be woman on the interwebs to be fat ugly 45 year old men.

Now don't get me wrong, there are lots of woman about. They just don't tell anyone and we assume there men.

A example would be "vi edit", i'd bet good money everyone here assumes (unless you know the person very well) he is a "he" when for all we know he's a she.

My continued presence here may blow that theory out of the water. Dominant personality? Yeah, like an incontinent kitten.

Girls are underrepresented on internet forums in general. This will naturally lead to some nastiness directed at them, unfortunately. I don't think ATOT is worse than anywhere else. If anything I think female members are revered around here.

I mean, if it's like;y the 15 yo girl in the chat room is actually a 29 year old unemployed guy in his skivveys in his mom's basement, wouldn't the same possibility exist for the person whose picture has been demanded?
I think it would be cool for some gal whose getting pestered to go grab a picture from CL's hook up section and decoy them.
What possible good can be served by actually letting your picture get out?, ESPECIALLY like that.

especially tech forums. If this were fuzzbunnyonline.com or a fashion forum, them you'd probably see a lot more girls.

I think atot's slant is what makes it entertaining. When it comes down to it I think most members will make an effort to remain courteous though..

there are no women on the internets.

seriously though, as a whole men and women have different interests. sure there exceptions but the vast majority of posters are male for a reason.
its not like its the only site on the internet.
and its not like women centric sites spend their time wondering how to attract more male audience:p

if u go into a group and scream about your thin skin then yes it will create bad vibes. no one likes a buzz kill. if you don't like a babe thread..don't #%@ click on it. if anything its become excessive on this forum. dulled down in the way you'd censor material for a small child. which shows it is basically based on a sexist attitude towards women in a way, being overprotective of them like children.

None of the above. I do still get people referring to me as "he"/"him" etc, from time to time though. Not sure how much more explicit I need to be that I'm not a guy :p.

Its nowhere in your signature and I'm pretty sure this is the first post of yours that I have seen. You aren't exactly being explicit...

No. Written messages ? speaking/talking. ;)

Or singing :)

You write like a man. I always think you are a man. Only thing that ever brings doubt to my mind is your avatar.

Every time I see you write, I always think "Oh fuck, why can't they just ban you again..."

You bring up a valid point (which I've bolded). It does get played out when your sexuality is questioned over and over. Most of the time I just brush it off, but I have had two moderators accuse me of not being a woman which irritates me more.
