<< LOL, this thread is funny.

I don't want to be pay $30 for worse services than many others around.
>>

heh, you should pay $30.00 to a tutor to help you with your grammar and sentence structure.

I sometimes wonder if the free server(s) were artificially made slower as to encourage people to subscribe. It really doesn't matter to me if there are 100 or 600 people logged on......the speed is the same......slow.

Fortunately I have a life. So I wont be subscribing anytime soon.:D

<< <<yup.. but for those who abandon.. there is a new ship at the dock taking passengers. (more like a big speed boat )>>

Ofcouse its a speedboat, because you only have 140 registered members. I bet ATOT would be lightning fast, if it had 140 members. I doubt your forums can't handle anything larger than 1000members, it would be slower than a snail. :)

i'd really be curious to find out what kind of line AT is hooked up to. I know my site is hosted of an OC48, which seems like it should be fast enough for any amount of users i get. then again-- you're right... i only average 10 or so users on at a time.. 26 is the most on at once so my forums havent been tested to the extremes. Kinda makes it nicer in my opinion... its a fun little community. :)
>>

You dont get to use that OC48 like most of us dream. You have a small amount of it. You have a limit on how much data can transfer to/from your site. AT has the same problems, but Im sure they pay for a bigger pipe and more data transfers. (not a criticism, just a comment)

I will not contribute a cent until the quality of Anandtech's content increases. If Anand is too busy chasing the UNC cuties(which is really what college is for, not writing about freaking video cards), then perhaps he should turn over some of the writing chores to those with more time.

I wont subscribe because I'm opposed to being "double charged" so to speak. If we as a community didnt come here, this website wouldnt exist. Therefore, since we do, in order to pay the bills, he allows advertisements on the front page, which generate income.
Ok, so he makes money from me COMING here, and NOW he wants to CHARGE me in addition to the revenue I generate from coming here?
Wait a minute....THAT seems a bit fishy to me.

Wait, so if we subscribe, AT won't be so slow? That's my only disregard for this place, is that the servers are always so slow. Do subscribers get put into a higher priority que, or dumped into a faster load balancer or what? $30/yr... hmm, I might be interested.

There is a huge speed increase when you subscribe. Viper GTS did a comparison of the load times. Let me see if I can find them.

Read This.

Well thanks for confirming my suspicions I didn't know most people had this much good & bad to say about it.

Intentionally abanding the forums? Nope. But i am slowly just fading away. I use to post a lot but i visit less and less and post less and less due to the decreasing speed and the increasing flamers that have multiplied in the past 6 months. Everyone who can afford 30, that's great! but unfortantly I can't, my money is tight. Besides i'm not a "valued member" here.

No speed issues here...I am a subscriber as well.

Gotta figure that you are not only paying to get a fast server, but you are also backing a good site. I wish that anand would give more beneifts to paying subscribers OTHER than fast forums access. :)

The speed increase is great but my primary motive for subscribing was to show support
for the site. I can't calculate all the money I've saved and earned as result of the info I've
obtained here .I can buy/sellhardware, get quick answers to perplexing tech questions
and have a lot of laughs in OT,helluva value for $30 a year :)

Have tabbed browsing so the speed really isn't a problem.

What is tabbed browsing? my brain hasn't woke up yet.

<< Buy one item on the forsale forum and earn back all you spend on subscription >>

Is that following the same logic that women use when they go out shopping, only to come back with full arms saying "look how much I saved!"?

$2.50 a month.

My 8-year-old brother can afford that. If you can't, that's really really sad.
