Is AMD really faster?

It depends on what type of Turion she bought. A MT-30 will be hard-pressed to outperform a Pentium M 1.6 GHz. It is not always true that AMD is better. You will see soon that with Conroe and the latest Pentium M chips. Intel has been in the laptop market for a lot longer and has had time to perfect their products. IMO, I have had three AMD PCs but I will definitely go Intel for laptop.

Pentium 4s are outperformed by Athlon64s but Pentium Ms are hard to beat.

Pentium-M's peform pretty similar clock for clock to A64/turnions in a lot of applications. P4's and pentium-d's using the netburst architecture are a lot more inefficent and power hungry, which is why Intel is ditching netburst. Of course one major differance there could be between your machines is the hard drive..if you have a 5400 or 7200rpm drive, and hers has a 4200rpm drive, thats probably your differance right there..it's more likely the hard drive than the CPU thats the limiter in her machine.

I am not saying any of it has been proven true....that will be done in a court of law....Just a possible explanation....

Turion are not the leaders in laptops...should have been comparable to new Dothan laptops but not overwhelmingly faster...

Get a desktop if you want real computing power. Notebook are for kids. Download Super Pi and run the 1M digits test. Compare the processing time between the two PCs and post here.

well no crap they rival desktops of the same specs. Only probelm is they cost alot mroe for thsoe same specs, and there aint any way to get a high end processor into a laptop. I don't exactly see any FX60 laptops, deffinitely no prayer in hell of getting a PentiumD in the thing. Also you get the graphics cards way underclocked. Anyone buying a notebook for pure processing pwoer is getting a very crappy performance/price comapred to a desktop

So get a Core Duo. Plenty of processing power there, no? You get what you pay for. More specifically, portability and power. Sure, you pay more for laptops, for good reasons.

The only part that sounds like FUD is the 10:1 ratio used to describe the performance vista between Turion and PM in that excel app.

Incidently, this kinda goes along the same lines why I have a problem with the Conroe benchmarks we saw but are also unable to verify.

You know you are making a raving case that INtel engineers are rather dense!!! Where did I quote INtel was behind this story...The comment was amount INtel and alleged compiler issue...as listed in the lawsuit...You fargin genius!!!!
