heres what i dont understand...they have a jailbait board or whatever you call it, but there are nude pictures. either a, these are not really jailbait, or b, they are which would mean its illegal, right?
 
I'm guilty of checking out /s/ from time to time... I don't go to the other sections very often. 😱

anything gets posted there... from pictures of pencil erasers to child porn to gruesome rotten.com style photos

*EDIT* I first heard about the site when Bill O'Reily called 4chan a haven for criminals and pedophiles and called for it to be shut down. Naturally I wanted to see what the fuss was about... there's some pretty nasty stuff posted there. While I find it disgusting, there are some valid sections that are not disgusting and we live in the USA where censorship is (fortunately) unpopular so I doubt it'll be shut down any time soon. I doubt it's even hosted on American soil... but we're not China... no national proxy to filter what reaches our delicate eyes.

People posting child porn are breaking the law. The owners of the 4chan site are not breaking the law as they claim they make every effort to ensure illegal content is removed.

People posting child porn are breaking the law. The owners of the 4chan site are not breaking the law as they claim they make every effort to ensure illegal content is removed.

So yeah, there is a lot of illegal content on there. But you can't remove the entire site because the users post illegal content.

Lets say, somebody posts child porn on anandtech. It stays up for 10 minutes. Should be ATOT be shut down?

How often does do users need to post illegal content before a site gets shutdown? Its a very gray area.

Right. The merits of such a site are questionable. Again though, we live in the USA where free speech is not taken away from everyone simply because there's a minority that abuse it.

It's been debated for years. Last I checked it's still up so apparently sufficient proof that the site itself is breaking the law hasn't been found.
 
anime and manga, anime wallpapers, high res, and oragami and crafts are the sections i visit.
