I haven't seen the movie, am not disagreeing with you.

However, I saw a piece about the film on TV and they asserted otherwise. It is of course fiction. But they were talking of the history prof who advised on the film, and the early/ancient historian who wrote about the battle and their efforts to retains some historical accuracy. (I can't remember the name of either.) They even addressed the "uniforms" worn. Unless I misunderstood, the film followed the ancient Greek habit of depicting the soldiers without most of their armor. Gotta show off those abs, I suppose
