I just stopped at the T-mobile store this morning around 9:30 and picked one up. They opened early, but I don't think anyone showed up, the store was empty when I was there. There were like 10 sales people and no customers. It's a HUGE improvement over my aging 3GS.

My wife and I went to our local Verizon store right around opening and there were 30 people in line ahead of us. The store didn't receive any gold phones, and by the time they got to person #20 or so they were out of silver phones.

My wife and I both ended up getting 32gb space gray phones. She's going to use a case on hers so we can tell them apart. We got the next to last 32gb they had in stock.

The only 5c that had been sold by the time we left was sold to the guy right in front of us in line who works for Contour Design Inc. which is an iPhone case company. I guess his work sent him to get a functional model they can test their cases with. Was interesting chatting with him a bit about how iPhone case design works.

Anyway, first impression of the phone is that it's really fast (coming from a 4S). Surprised how light it feels. The touch ID sensor seems to be working really well for now. Hitting the home button w/ my thumb and holding it there for a second feels pretty natural.

I checked the apple store and AT&T store in Pasadena this morning. Twenty people waiting in line at AT&T. Hundreds at the apple store.

Also, since I am not the plan owner on my service, I probably couldn't get the phone subsidize anyway. Meh.

Kinda surprised gold is in such high demand. I was talking to a coworker who isn't very flashy, and she said that was the one she wanted. I almost want one now!

Speaking of Pasedena:

Homeless paid to camp out for iPhones, fight breaks out

Fights have broken out at the Pasadena Apple store leading to at least two arrests Friday morning as hundreds lined up in anticipation of the new iPhone 5S and 5C release.

Police arrested George Westbrook, 23, of Compton and Lamar Mitchell, 43, of Pasadena for fighting in line outside of the store, Pasadena Police Lt. Jason Clawson said.

About 9 a.m., another scuffle was breaking out as one man left the store with multiple phones, Clawson said. People whom the man hired to stand in line for him began fighting with him because they said they weren’t being paid enough, Clawson said.

Peer pressure!

I predicted it would do well, but we're not sure exactly how well it is doing though. It seems Apple produced lesser numbers for the gold as it too underestimated demand.

I think Kaido is going to be quite happy, because I can report that the purple haze is not present on the 5s. My friend got one, and I held the camera up with an overhead light up at the side and I saw no purple. I held my 5 up in the same position, and the purple haze was rather bad.

I can't see any purple haze at all with my 5. I might not understand the "problem", because nothing is jumping out at me.

It's really easy to produce. When I was taking photos of my latest PC build, I had to position my phone in just the right way to reduce the purple flare from the natural light reflecting off the case.

uh...

More details are emerging about a man's attempt to purchase numerous iPhone5s Friday by recruiting homeless people from Los Angeles' skid row to wait in line outside a Pasadena Apple store.

Pasadena police arrested two people when the scheme broke down Friday morning. But officials said they don't plan a larger criminal investigation.

"It's not a police issue. It's a business issue," said Pasadena police Lt. Jason Clawson.

PHOTOS: iPhone lines, anticipation around world

It all started Thursday afternoon along skid row, according to several witnesses, when groups of men were spotted driving around and shouting: "Who wants to make some money?"

By Thursday evening, dozens of homeless had gathered near the Midnight Mission on San Pedro Street. Groups of them were loaded into cars — just a handful at a time at first, then larger groups in vans.

They were driven to the Apple store in Pasadena. There, a businessman promised to pay them to wait in line for the maximum two vouchers for the iPhone 5s and 5c. Before long, they rounded out a significant portion of the crowd waiting for the store to open Friday morning, according to the Pasadena police, witnesses and several homeless people involved.

The line stretched down Colorado Boulevard, then rounded the corner at De Lacey Street, turning past the Tiffany & Co. store, where you can buy a starfish brooch for $450.

When the doors finally opened, the plan seemed to fall apart. According to various accounts, the businessman — who refused to identify himself but said he planned to resell the phones overseas at a large profit — had arranged for the homeless people to be given vouchers enabling them to purchase phones.

"It's not illegal," the man said in a brief interview with TV reporters. "I'm buying them at full retail price."

He had not, however, given them money to actually buy the phones. So when the doors opened, the homeless flooded the store, but most of their vouchers appear to have been useless. A mad scramble ensued. The businessman managed to buy at least a handful of phones before store employees ordered him out.

The man then declined to pay the homeless people whose vouchers were not used, witnesses and police said. An exhausted crowd erupted in anger.

"He was cheating us," said Calvin Windell Pleasant, who has lived on skid row for years and said he'd never seen a place as nice as Colorado Boulevard.

The atmosphere got more heated. And police — for the businessman's own protection — escorted him away in a squad car.

Many of the homeless lingered near the store for hours afterward. Police gave several people directions to the Metro station a few blocks away.

Dominoe Moody, 43, was among those taken from skid row to Pasadena. Moody did manage to get two phones, but when he handed them to the businessman, he didn't get his $40 because police were in the process of stuffing the businessman into a patrol car. "It didn't go right. I stood out here all night," Moody said.

"They need to bring him back ... to pick up the people that he brought here," said Vivian Fields, 49. "We have no way to get home."

Ordered mine this morning about 7:30AM CST, just before I headed in to work. Off the AT&T website. Received an order confirmation a few minutes later saying 10 - 14 days.

Just a bit ago I received a notice that it shipped today, FedEx estimates a Monday delivery. Much faster than I'd have expected. Works for me!

32gb's seem to be in short supply though; no surprise 16 isn't enough, 64 is too much.

Seems in the USA (at least in Philly) Tmobile stores only carry the 16g version. 32 and 64g have to be ordered online(they can do it in the store for you). Ordered my 32g. Estimated ship date is 10/1.

Ok, finally have my order submitted for the 64GB Gold and 64GB Space Grey. What a pain in the ass. But ATT updated my information at the store, so I shouldn't have this problem when the new iPads are released. ;)

64 is too much? Nah... not for me at least. I have around 18GB of music that I like carrying with me, which only leaves about 9GB left to play with on a 32GB phone. I removed a ton of the larger games (nothing above 50MB was spared), but I still have around 32GB used. It doesn't help that iTunes lacks some sort of Messaging archival feature, which probably represents the 1.8GB of "Other" that I have. A friend's wife had nearly 18GB used up as "Other", and my friend ended up having to archive all of her text messages, which was nearly 98% comprised of photos. I guess there is a negative aspect of iMessage not being nearly as restrictive on media compared to MMS. :p

Anyway, I bought a Space Gray 64GB 5s yesterday. I was a little worried because the guy at the Apple Store told me that they were having issues activating with Verizon when it came to off-contract purchases. Fortunately, mine worked, and I was good to go. I also decided to try out one of those newer cases that they put out. The only negative (other than price :p) that I can say about it is that using leather as the entire surface material makes it feel a bit more slippery. My original case was TPM-based and had some slight ribs on the side where your hand normally goes, which is great for getting a good grip. Plus, it was only 99 cents! :D
