I remember quite a few threads where the iPad was predicted to be a massive failure :)

<---hmmm, eyes the search function of the forums...

That's because haters will always hate. Microsoft fanboys will tell you Apple and Google sucks. Apple fanboys will tell you how much Microsoft sucks and so on and so on. Just look at the latest threads by the Microsoft fanboys bashing Android.

I don't discriminate. I have a windows machine at home, a Macbook at work and I love my Android powered Evo 4g. Yet I can always find enough people bashing those products as if those are the worst inventions ever.

Flash is too prevalent to die any time soon but HTML5 is not up to par yet and even then, some of the security risks associated with Flash seems to be popping up on HTML5 with things like persistent tracking cookies.

And on the subject of Flash, I don't think it's needed on a mobile phone but tablet devices like the iPad definitely need it. Just give me the ability to turn it off similar to the Flashblock plugin on Firefox.

And while I'm not a fan of Flash, football season has started and sometimes when I'm at work and want to keep up with the game the "Gamechannel" in the Yahoo Sports page is one use of Flash that I definitely love.

A major mark against HTML5 is that it's not a ratified standard yet. As web technologies are driven by designers, not programmers, the uptake of a standard that may change and break a newly developed site is not very apealing. Combine this with fully exposed code (yea, I know you can obfuscate, but seriously...) and you're just giving your I.P. away for free.

With Flash these issues just don't apply.

the rate of market acceptance for dvd players was affected by the large installed base of video tape players.

So comparing it to the ipad is meaningless.

And the rate of market acceptance of iPads is affected by a massive installed base of netbooks, laptops and smartphones.

How does that change anything?

Buying an iPad over a netbook or laptop, or smartphone is like just buying a different VHS player. The iPad didn't introduce any technology that would make a users' current content obsolete. The DVD player required users to replace their existing VHS catalog with DVDs, which is a much bigger decision than just what hardware one buys to watch movies on.

I don't think the comparison between the iPad and the DVD player is a valid comparison at all.

THe only reason why it's being compared to the DVD is because everything that has to do with Apple has to be either revolutionary or magical:rolleyes:.

But buying a DVD player didn't mean you had to throw away your VCR and all your tapes!

What I feel would be an appropriate comparison, Hello Kitty waffle makers still makes the iPad sales figures pretty amazing...

Bottom line is that Apple kicked ass and took names with the iPad so far.

It forced you to either fragment your collection and maintain two devices, or replace your existing library with dvd copies. The iPad doesn't have this issue; your digital media still works, you're just accessing your files on a different-looking computer.

True. It's sold very well. But analysts are still dumb.

I hope HTC gets into the tablet game. Their devices are so customizable. They're the polar opposite of Apple.
