I know 4 people with ipads other than myself.

When i was flying this weekend, there were about 3 ipads in the first class seating section. I think there were like 12 seats total? So, 1/4th of the people in the first class seating had an ipad. This was the same on the trip to dallas and the trip back, but with different people.

Geez someone's ballin. I've never flown first class. It obviously depends where you live. If you live where there's other people around you're bound to see one. If you don't live where there's other people then you won't see one.

First class is so choice, if you have the means, I highly recommend doing it.

Honestly, only time I have flown first class was a family vacation when I was 8, my dad used to fly to South Korea about a dozen times a year for business, so he had a ton of points to cash in. Family of four, first class from Harrisburg to Phoenix, week long vacation, almost every night in a Hilton almost all of it for free.

That was also my first time on a plane, totally spoiled me :)

Segue aside, there are still a limited number of them in the wild, and they do start at $500 so it makes a certain degree of sense that they aren't seen everywhere. I haven't seen any yet in the wild in Central PA, though I did see someone as they were buying one at Best Buy, but I am not sure if that counts.

Virtually all of the docs I work with have one, and they want our hospital to incorporate them into our system ASAP.

The problem with you naysayers is that you're looking at it from a technical viewpoint. Many of you have valid concerns from a technical point of view.

But what you seemingly don't realise is that far more morons than intelligent people exist on this planet, and many of them actually make very good money due to looking good, being able to sing, wearing clothes nicely, being able to convince other people something is a very good idea based on being a nice guy and looking / sounding convincing, etc.

JVLfV.jpg

Exhibit A

And then many, many other, far more average morons take notice of what these guys are doing, because they are far more interested in what these people are doing than a bunch of geeks (and I mean real geeks, not a Crapbook Air-clutching fashionista who says "I'm a geek" because they've got a Twitter account).

And Apple is very good at addressing the wants of these types of people. Uniquely so in the tech sector I'd say, because their operating systems and their usage modes are much less bruising to the egos of 'the computer did it' people, and they design their hardware around the presumptions and expectations of people who know nothing about materials or engineering.

The problem with Microsoft-based stuff and e.g. the current iteration of desktop Linux tech is that they both still don't provide a soft landing for the egos of the people above, especially in the 360-degree ownership experience. And that's ultimately why Apple solutions are rapidly becoming more popular - people feel more empowered because the technology is being brought down to their level, not the other way around.

That's what it comes down to - it's the moron juggernaut. You might as well try and stop the tide with your hands. And Apple are surfing that Google-sparked Dunning-Kruger wave like a total mofo.

Just about everyone I know has at least one iPad at their house. Some have multiple ones for adults and kids.

I love ours but I'm noticing the slow browsing speed more and more now. I was thrilled with what I thought was quick page loads on the internet browser when I first got it. Now I.m used to near instant page load from my Galaxy S phone, the iPad slower page load is noticable. iPad needs more ram. That said, we love the iPad and would have a second one if not for the upcoming refresh early next year. My wife already wants second gen and told me to buy it soon as it's available.

@vBuggy

I've been saying this about Apple products for years. And the only thing I've bought in the last 10 years Apple related were two iPods and three iPhone 4's. My previous iPhone was a 2G model that was given to me. What makes Apple products work is that while they are not flawless they cater to those who just want to do Task A or Task B and not have to work at learning how to use a computer or computing device. Tinkering and modifying how a phone looks, whether iPhone or Android, is fun and all but the average person on the street doesn't know how to do it and doesn't care. It's also why the average Joe doesn't care that the iPad doesn't have XYZ feature that the techy crowd needs/wants.

USB, Flash, and Front Facing cameras are not techy crowd features.

USB prevents any sort of realistic interfacing. Ipad could be a good Photo dump/viewer/sharer/editor whatever

Flash prevents lots of things like Hulu, and more important, Porn

Front Facing Camera retards a great potential conferencing and personal calling device, as it is much more natural to do so than constantly adjusting a Laptop's webcam

But... we all know iPad 2 is going to have these generic consumer features.

When I flew cross-country in early July I didn't see any but that was barely a month after it came out. I`m sure if I flew now I`d see many of them since I see many just doing every day things.

I know what is and isn't a techy oriented feature. I was thinking more along the lines of being able to change elements of the UI and abilities such as tethering. These are things the average Joe simply doesn't know what to do with for the most part.

As far as there not being any "in the wild", I saw 3 in my row of 7 seats on the last United flight to Boston. I do see a lot of them on planes and in airports... but that said, I own one and aside from travelling (I had mine out in the airplane as well), I don't tend to take mine out of the house. I use it a lot in the house, but outside the house, I mostly use my iPhone instead.

A larger iPod Touch. Whoop-dee-fucking-doo.

Profanity is only allowed in OT and in P&N, It's not allowed in the tech subforums.

You are also trolling so if you don't have anything to add to the thread, stay out.

Although I didn't get one myself, it did sell very well despite all the naysayers.

Of course it sold well. There are plenty of idiots with way more money (or credit) than sense.

I'll believe it when I see the evidence. If what you say is true, the Apple TV would of been a success too.

A bad idea is a bad idea, whether Apple makes it or not. Devices like it are far from mainstream things like smartphones and portable music players.

Tablets were never mainstream things. I don't think the iPad was a bad idea.

Opinions != Facts

I can put a number on the sales of the iPad. I can't put anything tangible towards your opinion.

Apple TV was around for while before they reintroduced it. It didn't take off before because devices of its kind weren't in that much demand, the price was too high, and it was too limited.

That's a bit like buying a Laptop and having to plug in a WiFi card or USB SD card reader. They should be built in.
