Anybody running iOS 5 on the iPad 1? How's it handle? Last thing I want is the nightmare I had putting iOS 4 on my 3G. 😛
i got the ipad 1 as well, though i got everything just how i like it and running good, so the last thing i ever plan to do is update it unless its dire.

Everyone needs to stop trying to download this and raping Apple's download servers. I'm currently downloading 3 updates and I'm on track to have them done... by tomorrow morning.

For whatever reason I was able to quickly DL the update for my iPhone 4 in 20 minutes or so last night, but the iPad DL was saying eight hours. Same thing when I tried this evening. Oddly, though, I just now tried again and it's saying ETA 18 minutes. You might want to try again now if your DL is very slow.

my iPad originally showed 5 hours. I cancelled it and restarted, and it showed 30 minutes.

my icloud/mobileme email is STILL borked. the mail app in lion will receive mail from the icloud/mobileme server, but won't send and has not sent a single mail since upgrading. sigh.

One interesting change that I didn't see any place mention is that you can sync and use the devices at the same time.

Although, I was noticing some bad battery life with my 3GS and I wonder if it's because I left the device as "connected" in iTunes (even though it's not plugged in). My assumption is that it being connected possibly left the WiFi turned on, which would explain why it's gone from 100% to 85% over the past 3 hours (it hasn't really done anything during that time).

EDIT:

I think that is the issue. I "ejected" the device in iTunes about 10 minutes ago ( it disappeared like normal ), and I looked again now, and my 3GS is back in iTunes. :|

updated a 3GS: updated to itunes and downloaded ios5 update. Everything went smooth.

No noticeable "slowness" on the 3GS. If you dont care about JB/Unlock on your 3GS, it's smooth and nice.

I've had every OS since 2.0..

This is easily the single best update so far.

A could of things I like. AF lock on the camera, perfect for video and also you can drag the keyboard down in the Message app. I don't believe you could do this before.?

I have iOS5 on my iPhone 4 and a 4th Gen Touch. I do not yet have Lion on my Mini. When I wired sync those iDevices to the Mini now, the iDevices no longer show the "Sync in Progress"/"slide to cancel" screen.

Is this typical?

I noticed that as well and it's a very welcome change. It was annoying to want to scroll up to find a message, but only have that tiny little portion of the screen to actually see messages in!

I mentioned it above, but it seems to be the case that the devices are usable while being sync'd unlike prior to iOS 5.

I wonder how long until someone finds out after a crash that their iPhone was not syncing? Is there any indication on the phone when it is wifi syncing?

My phone lost all of it's contacts initially. Found out about the text message re-add option. Added one person back in and then all of them showed up again. F'n weird.

I'm coming from a jailbreak of 4.3 and I actually wish I hadn't. Still preferred my camera button on the lock screen instead of the double tap, activator enabled buttons (flashlight), lock screen notifciations through ByteSMS and tethering. Once an untethered JB comes out I'm going back to the dark side.

i'm on 4.3JB as well and have been toying with upgrading to 5 even if it was tethered, but many of the cydia apps still haven't been upgraded to work with 5 yet. i am going to hold off for a little while. tethering and and openNotifier are the two main reasons I'll stick. TetherMe will work with 5, but not ON. And I prefer to keep my locksreen notifications in the statusbar for privacy reasons rather than on the lockscreen itself.

I'm wondering if we won't see a JB released until the (unannounced) 5.0.1 comes out to fix the bugs that we're currently seeing. I doubt the dev team wants their intrusion method to be fixed that quickly. 😛
