iOS 5 is live

I would update to the newest Itunes released a few days ago. That's what I did. Then plugged in my ipad2 around 5:30 eastern, it took 15 minutes. When it was done, saw a bunch of new screens and eulas on the Ipad2. About agreeing to use the Icloud and a few other things.
Then when it restarted, Ibooks and a few other apps needed updating.
I always find a o/s update a little exciting, lol 🙂

It took forever but it's installed on my iPhone 4. Getting a weird issue: after it installed iOS 5 and restored my backup, it claims to be nearly 20GB over capacity, so it won't sync. I have a 32 GB phone. It appears the major problem is that I have 21.8 GB of "other" items. Anyone have any bright ideas what the issue is?
 
I like iOS5, but the new itunes kept hard crashing on me and I had to force quit it and restart my machine 4 times before the update was successful. Stupid itunes.
 
I'm digging the new gestures on my iPad. Actually kind of makes it feel a little more like my TouchPad in a way.
 
WTF! Downloaded, installed. Am I not supposed to restore via back-up thru iTunes? I keep getting an error that my iTunes cannot connect to this iPhone due to an unknown error.

Am I hosed? Should I activate it as a new phone then try and restore?
 
What a friggin mess! Had to research the error message 0xE800000A and had to go to my C:\Program Data\Apple folder and move the Lockdown folder to the recycling bin to get iTunes to recognize my iPhone.

After doing that, b/c I had performed a new phone activation on the iPhone, the restore only restored the new activation. I then found a restore dated named iPhone 10/13/2011 but the back-up associated to it was dated 10/10/2011. Restored that but I no apps or music but my contacts, text messages were available.

So I am now resyncing my apps and music, I'm probably going to now have to reconfig all of my apps. I hope I didn't lose anything in this mess. Did the rest of you have to resync your apps and music?

Yep had to resync apps. Dunno about music. Can see it being annoying but was due for a bit of a cleanup anyway and didn't lose any data. Otherwise worked fine on my 3GS.

As for the changes itself, I'm pretty happy with them. Reckon the new notification centre was long overdue and other minor stuff are good improvements. Icing on the cake so to speak.

That said, and maybe it's just my brain playing tricks on me, does it seem to anyone else that their 3GS is a bit snappier after the upgarde?
 
I'm liking iOS5. The new notification system is decent, but I was really hoping they'd add an icon along the top bar (similar to a lot of jailbreak notification systems) for when you've gotten an email. The lockscreen notification is better than nothing though.

You can configure this in Settings. By default Mail is off.
 
So "iPod" has turned into "Music" on the iPhone (it was already that way on the Touch).

Interesting, since now I use "Music" to listen to podcasts. Not unlike having to click "Start" to shut down, IMO. 😉

Anybody running iOS 5 on the iPad 1? How's it handle? Last thing I want is the nightmare I had putting iOS 4 on my 3G. 😛
 
I really like the fact that on my iPhone.. if a contact has an AppleID it flips to iMessage instead of hitting AT&T's network... as iMessage will show the other person typing.

Hourly weather is pretty slick, too.

I finally just restored my phone to factory settings, then manually reconfigured it rather than using my backup (I figured this couldn't hurt anyway since I haven't done it since my old iPhone 3G). It seems happy now. Overall iOS 5 works great, and if anything feels snappier than 4.3.x (as opposed to the awful experience I had running iOS 4 on my 3G).

I think it has to fall within a certain time frame for it to show up.

Actually now that I think about it, it only shows on the lock screen when you set an alert for it. However, it shows in notification center all the time if you're one day away from said event.
 
So, I have like 1500+ songs on my iPhone, all of which are downsampled (I check that box in iTunes). One thing I'd wondered is how iCloud would handle that, but we'll get to that later.

Anyway, so now after 5.0 all my songs show up in my iPhone, but

a). It took WAY too short of a time to sync/restore them. It took hours to get them on the phone originally, but maybe 10 minutes to sync/restore them

b). Each song synced individually after they were "restored", although it was going to quickly to see what was going on. It said it was a 5 step process, and the only one I could make out was "syncing cover art". Which is weird, since each of the files has embedded art in the file.

c). None of my music works. It's all there, supposedly, on the phone, but when I play a song, the timer stays at 0:00, the shuttle never moves, and obviously I don't get any music.

d). I also have like 12 gigs (32 gig iPhone4) of "other" which magically appeared when I updated to iOS 5.

So, I have no idea what the heck is going on here, but I'm not particularly excited about it.
