I think updating this thread is very important to Sweepr (for whatever reason). He always reposts things even if someone else reposted them first.

What Intel is doing is basically what AMD called Continuous Transistor Improvement, or CTI.

After the big Coffee Lake leak earlier today, another interesting bit.

This week we got to know that Intel pulled in Skylake-EP's arrival, it's already shipping - Google and Facebook get it first. While browsing Taobao I was surprised to find out that someone is allegedly selling Xeon E5-2699 v5 ES. Here's the description:

Server Skylake-EP (Purley) - Xeon E5-2699 v5 ES goes on sale in China (32C/64T?)

Supermicro K1SPE LGA 3647
Xeon E5 2699 v5 - QK5N CPU
32-Core 64-Thread Server @ 2.1 GHz
¥ 26500.00 (about 3853.82 USD)
Stock 86 pieces

Change in plans? The original Purley leak mentioned up to 28C/56T.

ASRock Z270 Fatal1ty Motherboard Teased

Here are some of the first pictures of a production version of an ASRock Z270 Fatal1ty-branded motherboard. While there's no picture of the board in full, Expreview scored pictures of its key sections, including its CPU VRM area, showing us prominent "Z270" badging on a VRM heatsink, a Fatal1ty logo on the PCH heatsink and its print on the PCB; and an Intel Gigabit Ethernet on the rear I/O hood, and Creative Sound Blaster Cinema 3 logo on the audio area hood; all pointing to this being a production version.

The rear I/O picture reveals two gigabit Ethernet interfaces, provision for a WLAN card, four USB 3.1 ports (of which one is type-C), two USB 3.0 ports, 8-channel HD audio with a TOSLINK connector; and display outputs including DVI, D-Sub, and HDMI. Storage appears to include eight SATA 6 Gb/s ports, and at least one M.2 slot (with Intel Optane support out of the box). Not much else is revealed by these pictures. Intel 200-series chipset motherboards are expected to launch alongside 7th generation Core "Kaby Lake" processors, in January 2017.

Wow. 32C/64T monolithic chip with a ton of AVX-512 units running at 2.1GHz base? I wonder if this is a 205W TDP part? The recent leaks show 205W TDP max but the slide you have above shows just 165W.

Very interesting!

So a fully enabled die with Skylake-EP from the start? Perhaps to keep Zen 32-core at bay.

Doubt it has anything to do with Zen. Intel knows it can charge more for more cores, so why not offer it to customers with ultra-deep pockets?

It can also mount an 2.5" SSD.

In fact, I just realized if the 2TB 3.5" drive was mounted in the top position (and a 2.5" SSD used in the lower position) a longer dual fan power connector-less GTX 1050 Ti like this one could be used:

So not just the shorty cards like this GTX 1050 Ti:

Yea, but again though, I dont think consumer who buys a prebuilt and doesnt want to change the PSU is going to want to or be comfortable with cloning the hard drive and installing a SSD.

No need to be rude, I was just commenting on the leak, and posting what mikk didn't.

Actually that's what some people have been asking for years. Many don't care about the iGPU or the rest.
Yea, seems like intel cant win. If they concentrate on the igpu they get criticized for wasting die space, and if they dont, they get criticized for lack of progress on the igpu. On the desktop, especially with the relatively cheap, efficient new dgpus coming out, I would much rather see a minimal igpu and more cores. Mobile is another story though. If HBM comes down in price eventually to make it practical for an APU, Zen could cause them a lot of problems in mobile. I have to say, although they have make huge progress on the igpu, I am overall disappointed in the igpu progress from intel. So much time, money and effort, especially for iris/iris pro and availabilty was always limited to super expensive products, and now they seem to be backing away from it instead of making it standard in mobile, as I hoped the would at some point, at least on quads.

Very civil response. Personally, I would have just reported it as a member call-out.

If socket 1151 is confirmed for Coffe Lake, next year a Pentium G4620 (2C+HT) and a good 1151 board will be a good buy for a lot of people.

One of the unique things about ATF is people with sources and industry people (@TuxDave@Idontcare @imported_ats ) :).

Coffee Lake-U will be a 4+3e part with 128MB eDRAM. Seems like they are making it standard for higher-end mobile PCs.

You wouldn't stick a huge die + big eDRAM cache in a typical, run-of-the-mill PC, would you?

This actually may mean Zen sucks, plain and simple, another iteration of Skylake, probably socket 1151 for a 3rd time, they did not did that for a LONG time, Intel seems to think they have everything under control with just 6 cores and + HT on I7...

Depends on your definition of "sucks." I think based on what AMD has said publicly, it will offer around SNB-level perf/clock and clock lower than SKL.

I guess my 'fear' is that if there's no improvement beyond the extra cores, it gives AMD an real opportunity to catch up. Especially if AMD can get Zen out of GloFo.
Not sure what you mean. In any case, I dont care if AMD "catches up", but hate to see overall progress slowing down so much. Intel's igpu sitiation to me parallels, but to a less severe degree, their efforts in mobile with atom. Neglect it for a long time, exert minimal effort, then see that the competition is ahead of you and make an effort to catch up and maybe even go ahead, then sort of give up and cut back on the efforts again. Now obviously, they have made a lot more progress on igpus than they did in mobile, I am simply saying the pattern is somewhat the same, and they seem to have devoted a huge amount of resources and then somewhat abandoned the effort. They were making good progress for a while, but now seem stalled.

Right now though, there is so much confusion in the model lineup that maybe they will pull a surprise out of the hat. If Intel has anything to fear though, it is that Zen will be a decent cpu and HBM will eventually become cheap enough for mainstream apus. An HBM apu with a decent, efficient cpu would be a huge problem for Intel. And AMD does not even have to match Intel in cpu. With HBM, their igpu performance would be so superior that all they would need would be decent, relatively efficient cpu performance to take the market for anything relying on igpu performance. I thought Intel would eventually improve their igpu performance to be competitive with even an HBM APU by the time they actually come out, but the way they are going, that certainly does not seem to be the case.

SNB will be 6 years old before Zen is released, SNB level IPC is petty much a huge fail.

I don't buy the 32c/64t part until i see CPU-Z to be honest.

Everything i have seen suggests 28c is the top dawg for SKL-X.

Doesn't make sense. Cannonlake would give them maybe a small 2-5% improvement in IPC while two extra core is a 50% boost potentially. Do you think 2-5% would make a big difference?

Not on desktops, of course. But at the price they get for mobile quads, they certainly could afford to make it standard across the board. I was not aware that Coffee Lake U will be 4+3e. Does anyone really know for sure though, and will it be a mainstream part or simply for high end 1500 dollar ultrabooks/surface tablets?

In any case, this still illustrates, IMO, the way Intel is shooting themselves in the foot with market segmentation. Why not make edram standard on mobile 45w quads as well, which could much better utilize it with their higher TDP, than on a U chip that probably will be highly thermally limited anyway in any application that utilizes heavily the cpu and gpu at the same time? An 800 dollar 45 watt quad core laptop with iris pro would be a very nice overall performance, light gaming system.

Who cares about his motivation? Sweepr dedication to keep his threads updated is very useful to get information and rumors about upcoming products.

As with all posts, just keep your critical mind opened, don't trust everything that gets posted, and then no matter why he does this, you'll get interesting stuff.

Do you think Zen will offer similar performance to Skylake?

No, but the way things are going you might see Zen+ before Icelake.

Hopefully Coffee will offer some kind of tangible improvement beyond the cores; like say they bring back the FIVR and that allows them to get a nice increase in clock/w at the higher end.

Does not actually compute.

Well, eDRAM ain't free.
No, but I think those mobile chips list for something like 3 or 400 dollars. Even if the OEMs pay half that, I think Intel could afford to put edram on the chip. Hell, add e-dram and increase prices 20.00 across the board. Would anybody even really notice? I would gladly pay even 50.00 on an 800.00 laptop for the extra performance of edram. I think the real problem is that the performance and performance per watt, despite all the effort, is still not competitive with something like a 950m, and it will be even worse the the 1050/1050Ti make their way into laptops.
