Purley sampling to customers, will integrate silicon photonics and Omni-path architecture. There will be a second generation with 3D XPoint.

That kind of sucks if Purley doesn't support the optimizations and you would need to wait for Cannon Lake-EP.

Another tidbit from their earnings, from CFO commentary.

Apparently in Q3 10nm startup costs were lower than they had expected (a 0.5pt decrease in gross margin versus 1.0pt expected). Usually when Intel lowers its startup costs forecasts, that's a bad sign. We've seen it with 10nm last year, which was lower than expected in Q1 and then again in Q2, when they decided to and announced the delay by a year.

So now it seems the big gross margin impact by 10nm will come in Q4. So to me it seems that the real volume of 10nm will come in 2018.

BTW, it's astonishing that Intel beat expectations by 200M and 900M versus original forecast, yet stock is down 6% because of flat guidance for Q4. They will have revenue of almost $59B, a decent increase, although this of course also includes about $2B from Altera.

Alright thats an obvious thing i focused little on lol, made shit clearer there. :flushed:

I also like those comparisons.

I would like to also compare
45nm 4c/8t (2008)
14nm 4c/8t (2016)
both for example @ 4ghz.

Copre 6c/12T @ 3,4ghz. Not really that impressed

Struggling understanding and comparing power in the cpu caused by the development the last decade other then lower TDP and shorter/faster signals.

990X is a 2011 chip and was priced over $1,000.00 at launch. 6800K was priced at half...and still handily beats the 990X.
http://ark.intel.com/compare/94189,52585

990X lacks several instructions, and has a massive memory bandwidth problem against the DDR4 chips. 6800K has triple the memory BW.
http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/62...dition_i7-990X_vs_Intel_Core_i7_i7-6800K.html

Going by price, the equivalent chip is the 6900K with 8C/16T at $1,000.00

The 990X was the flagship and absolute top of the line desktop chip LGA 1366. If you went cheaper in 2011, you were only getting quad cores. The same spot was occupied by the 3960/3970X, 4970X, etc. It was the 1000 dollar e peen stroker.

990x(slightly higher turbo) vs 6800k.

Very roughly 20-30% increase performance @ same clocks and c/t + potensial for increase ram speed and future instructions. And reduced launch price. Thats what it seems like to me.

I do see how the average cpu has increase both in cores and clock speed while price/power useage has dropped.

And i would think the newer cpu's are snappier? Start processing faster? or am i total retard atm? Got very limited knowledge in this field, which is why i ask :p Ordered a x5680 to replace my i7 920 to hopefully achieve 60fps stable @ ultra 1080p gaming for some years more. Trying to figure out when my cpu will become an obvious bottleneck. And also try to find a good cpu comparison to an overclocked x5680 across the sockets.

Does anyone know of a product that uses Skylake-R? If Apple doesn't release an iMac at their event in 8 days it might be a complete waste.

I have been waiting for a socket version of the 6785R. I must be the only person out there looking for one. I was waiting for one since Iris was announced. The Broadwell 5775C was released far to late. Plus, I was hoping for an updated version to use DDR4's higher bandwidth.

Posting a load of crap and insight information in 1 post, I guess only SemiWiki can do that.

"FYI: I was told at a recent conference by people who would know that Intel has in fact moved 10nm from R&D to the Israel fab after hitting 80% yield so do not count Intel out of 10nm. The Israel fab is the one that ramped 22nm expertly and I expect they will do the same at 10nm."

If Intel has only "recently" hit 80% yields (I don't know 14nm or 22nm yields, but then one year ago it just must have been even less), one wonders why it took Intel until Q2'15 to decide that 10nm would not go into production in Q2'16.

Core i7-7700K pops up at Geekbench 4 again (Windows 64-bit)

Impressive single-core score. Does anyone know what clocks Skylake/Kaby Lake needs to reach for a 6K result?

Single-Core Score

6002
Multi-Core Score
19804

https://browser.primatelabs.com/v4/cpu/726300

Judging from how my 6700K scales in the 4-4.9 GHz region, a score of 6000 would happen at pretty much exactly 5 GHz. RAM speed influences it significantly, though; going from 2133 MHz to 3200 MHz takes my 4.9 GHz 6700K from ~5890 points to ~6250. That makes 5 GHz an upper bound since that's based on the standard RAM speed.

Benchlife is reliable. Why is this redundant?

I'm not saying they aren't, but the two are redundant. 4+2 U is 15 or 28 W. What point is a 18W 4+2 H model (or vice-versa)?

Edit: The article seems to agree with me, at least with Google Translate.
