Someone tell him that AMD is on the rear view mirror because Intel is almost a full turn late in the circuit...

Not counting theat they are counterfaiting perfs by putting the 1355U as faster than a 7840U, that is, they brand as slower a CPU that is easily 50-60% faster than their 1355U.
 
Wow. That really is a new low. Will AMD respond to this mud slinging attempt to save impressionable young minds of school children?

Let's recap:

Comparing their latest with Zen 2, without mentioning that their latest CPU containing laptop costs a lot more than the Zen 2 laptop

Cherry picked benchmarks

No mention of gaming performance or comparison of iGPU performance

No mention of V-cache CPUs

No battery life comparison benchmarks

Intel has hired a really crack marketing team. Kudos to them for highlighting how utterly useless they are.

HP and Lenovo marketing are gonna be like, ummm...Intel marketing, can we have some of what you are smoking?

The price difference between the cheapest 7520U and the cheapest 1335U laptop is over $100 in the local online stores in UAE. So yeah, Intel. Cash constrained households are definitely gonna get your 1335U laptops to punish AMD for their lies...
 
I had to dig it up because Intel hypocrisy is just too hard to not to call out, but I remembered that the Raptor Lake lineup literally had Alder Lake SKUs for the lower tiers, yet they obviously called it all 13th Gen (you know it's the latest and greatest because the processor name has 13 in the model, which is a bigger number than 12!).

See below slide. Raptor Cove has the larger L2 cache, yet only i5K models and higher get the "new" core.

And then of course we have Raptor Lake Refresh with a new and improved... higher number in the model name! Intel's "latest and greatest", ladies and gentlemen!
 
TIL it’s okay when AMD deceptively sells products if it’s Intel that points it out.

I would’ve easily fell prey to the AMD naming scheme a few years ago when I wasn’t paying close attention to tech. There’s an unwritten rule in tech that bigger number is better.

Good for Intel for pointing that out. But the comparison is absurd. They should compare their Core i3 mobile chip with 7520U because that's what will be available in a similar price range to the AMD chip.
 
Alternative explanation: clear out all existing Intel laptop inventory with any means possible. The dawn of a new era begins on Dec 15th with Core Ultra. Once Core Ultra is out, all previous Intel laptops will be viewed by the public as utter trash. Must prevent the prices from crashing so hard so do whatever possible to sell everything.

well, the timing shows it’s clearly related to meteor lake. I guess they’re worried that people will think a Zen 2 mobile chip is comparable to MTL and buy that instead since it’ll be much cheaper?

I think a big problem with this article is the timing. They should’ve done this like a week after AMD unveiled this naming scheme.

Intel is literally launching Raptor Lake Refresh soon... which is basically a rebrand of a minor refresh. And it uses the new naming scheme to boot.

I’m not saying I like the new naming scheme but Meteor Lake is differentiated with the “Ultra” moniker.

The refresh also has the word “refresh” in its name- it’s not attempting to hide the ball.

I want to see what other gems of comedy Intel's crack marketing team can come up with.

From connecting various dots, it appears that the volume of MTL laptops will be limited at start and ramp may be relatively slow.

So, Intel has no other option than to rely on Raptor Lake sales to laptop market. Which may in fact be reason Intel could be losing market share in laptop market.

HP selling their metallic 7520U laptops could be a particular threat for them. If it's cheap and works well, why wouldn't anyone choose the HP 7520U metallic body laptop over something like a cheap Lenovo plastic body laptop with an Intel CPU?

Where does it say "refresh" in the model name? If the only differentiator is the "ultra" moniker indicating a new generation, why doesn't AMD's number format, which clearly indicates which generation it is, count? Is there any indication to the customer that the ultra SKUs are actually a new generation and not just ultra performance, or ultra efficiency, or ultra marketing? I'd much prefer that refresh SKUs don't get new labels (outside of maybe a + or something) and I don't think anyone is just giving AMD's numbering system a pass in this regard (they actually got plenty of criticism when they unveiled their numbering scheme). Unfortunately, Intel's and AMD's biggest customers want updated numbers to help them sell systems. What people are calling out is Intel's not only blatant hypocrisy on the matter but also their disingenuous comparison points, these types of things are usually what people get upset about in terms of marketing, not whatever arbitrary naming system a company uses for their products.

I honestly don't care that much as marketing for every company is always shady at best and outright liars at worst, but if you don't expect people to call out a company for criticising a competitor for doing the same thing they've done many times before and plan to do again, I don't know what to tell you.

- there was a post about wafer starts of MTL compute die. Not very high crediblity, but the wafer starts were low
- Intel projection of how may "AI PCs" Intel will ship in next 2 years, and IIRC, the fraction was less than half of the shipments.

Raptor Lake are the rest - the non-AI-PCs

I don't know how RPL-R will be named, as of now the only ones I've seen online are labeled the traditional way "14700HX"

I can guarantee you, there won't be any hint of refresh in RPL-R model names.

As far as your question, just looking at the numbers in a vacuum, I would assume the 1005H was a newer model with a new baseline of features whereas the 155H Ultra was probably an older model with top of the line features for its time.

I think it's Intel marketing doing the traditional shock & awe campaign before a new product release just to get people talking. Not sure whether it'll work in their favor, but looks more like marketing just doing crazy stunts to justify their fat pay packages.
