Nice to see someone not saying gaming is a niche scenario, as is so common in this thread.
I have not seen anyone say gaming is a niche scenario. But gaming at the top 0.1% of FPS for a huge cost is what I have seen as being called niche. But if you can afford it, why not ? Who else here has 5 EPYC systems ? Nobody that I have seen. But I do, because I can afford it.

You're talking to someone who bought Kaby Lake X for fun. AdamK47 is the definition of the niche enthusiast.

That being said, I don't remember anyone in this thread saying gaming is a niche scenario either. It may seem that way if you deliberately ignore the gaming performance of the i5 and i7 SKUs.

The L3 does benefit some apps that's very true. What about the WinRAR internal benchmark? Thanks.

Not sure what the score was on 8700K, i will have to check when i get the chance to run it. Might also depend on Winrar version, this was run on latest 5.91 i believe

I like it. Bought it for its superior gaming performance. That's the primary purpose of my home PC.

I admire this for sure. I always enjoyed your all out approach on hardware for gaming.

Yeah i REALLY need Cyberpunk2077 and the new AC to inspire me to upgrade and enjoy my hobby again, i picked the 3900x mainly cause it does nothing but fold but also cause i lost about all joy in gaming. BF usually gets me interested enough to upgrade and build a pc for but wow its been bad since BF1. Luckily i got time to save up, wait for the games and reviews. Wait then for a patch or few, while if lucky maybe the latest hardware will be out.

Gonna hope end of year 2020 is as exciting for pc gaming as last year was for AMD in hardware. If its not as exciting as this image in a sense, then i may be out of this pc gaming hobby for good. I haven't been this bored since 2010. I sold a i7 940+ gtx295 gaming rig in 2010, before i got back into it with BC2 in 2011 with a i5 2500k which is still sitting in my htpc 9 years later.

Please do. The comet result looks very interesting though, way lower than I've seen it elsewhere. Is it 10900k PL1?

The 10850K, btw, I suspect is just chips binned as 10900 but rebranded to include unlocking. OEM desktop sales have been completely destroyed by the virus. I doubt there are actually that many 10900 OEM desktops out there but enough to get them to unload the chips on DIY, and they get more $$$ than just cutting to 10700K.

Is it the same die as the 10900k?

Anyone here build a Comet Lake rig using a Maximus Hero XII? I guess in general what memory did you use?
Memory Speed
Number of stick and amount(ie 4 stick of 8Gb etc etc)

According to Geekbench, yes. They're both Family 6, Model 165, Stepping 5, which would be the Q0 stepping.

I read this rather differently than jpiniero. PC sales are actually up almost across the board, and Intel was already capacity constrained going into this mess. They had to be aggressive with binning the 10900K to ensure that their halo SKU could benchmark against AMD's offerings. However, they aren't yielding enough of them to supply OEMs or be able to cut prices in order to respond to the competition. So they slotted in another unlocked 10-core that they can have a little more flexibility with.

Incidentally, CML-U V2 with LPDDR4X support finally showed up on Geekbench last week as well: https://browser.geekbench.com/v5/cpu/2990837

And I might as well throw in an updated version of my table of Intel "lake" dies:

Went from a 3900x to a 10700 for the gaming increase. The improvement in the game I play most is staggering.

Well, thats odd, as the biggest lead I have seen in ANY game is like 10%. Why don't you tell us what game .
