While i think most of us agree that they don't have much worth buying these days, it'd be nice to see that mentioned more tactfully, since you're starting to remind me of Rollo, & that's a horrible thing

Its just that people like fatty, and betwon, and others speculate sooooo much lately, that I am sick of it ! Sorry. I even read the Anantech article on Yonah, and it sounds promising, but we still know nothing about how they OC, what their price is or anything ! And they are a laptop chip, not a desktop !

I don't want speculation, I want more FACTS ! And the Inquierer doesn;t count as fact ! Just speculation.

dang, i say that presler has great OC potential and people get mad...they're all over AMD. im not an intel fanboy, im just pointing out what i read sometime ago. look how much it OCed to though, over 1Ghz! thats pretty dang sweet.

and please dont get mad all the time just because i/people say "intel has ____" so what if we do? i know amd is kicking intels butt on the desktop level right now, i know the X2/opterons are a great buy right now, i know the athlon64s kick the prescotts all around, but honestly, do you have to get mad over it? its just a stupid CPU.

IMO, unless Intel is on a goal to completely crush AMD to 1% market share, I personally believe it will never be Intel. Hypothetically speaking, if I were Intel and I had a processor with the same power, performance and production costs of an AMD chip, I would definitely have a higher price just because people are willing to spend more to have an 'Intel' chip. The same goes for other name brands like Sony vs Panasonic, Banana Republic vs Gap, etc... That's business.

That was a motherboard review, and I didn;t read it. Now that I do, I see your point, but they don;t tell the temps, cooling, or compare to ANY AMD chip. It might be interesting if they did that, since I benchmarked my 820D, and calculated it would have to be at at least 4.5 to touch my 3800 X2@2550. This is exactly the type of link I respect, not like the gibberish that fatty and betwon post.

Presters and Cedar Mills are the last of the P4 dyansty. If anything they are going to be what the Prescotts should have been in the first place. Yohan and Merom/Conroe/Woodcrest are the future for Intel. I'm sure Presters will rock at media encoding, but X2s will still have the edge in gaming and other number crunching apps. The upcoming M2 family will make AMD regain the lead until Conroe debutes.

The Yohan kicks butt considering that it lacks an intergrated memory controller and clockspeed of the higher-end K8s. Yohans are going to own the Turion family like a 5 dollar whore on the laptop front. It will be the first CPU to bring the joy of SMP to laptops not desktop replacements.

i seriously wish they would bring yonah to the desktop. that would be a great move by intel.

less power consumption, less heat, much better performance...all with dual-core!

why bother bringing yonah to desktop? merom is outperforming it by a huge margin and now its release has been pulled in by a quarter, with luck.

So we can believe the price.

Just an FYI, here's roughly what our prices are going to be:

BOX PENTIUM D 920 2.8GHZ ~ $275
BOX PENTIUM D 940 3.2GHZ ~ $466
BOX PENTIUM D 950 3.4GHZ ~ $690
BOX PENTIUM 4 661 3.6GHZ ~ $445
BOX PENTIUM 4 651 3.4GHZ ~ $309
BOX PENTIUM 4 641 3.2GHZ ~ $248
BOX PENTIUM 4 631 3.0GHZ ~ $206

Not out yet, but it's a reasonable estimate.

really? oh, i didnt even know it was already in testing...my bad! then i might just wait for merom, instead of going the cedar mill/prescott route.

Because some people just don't want to wait for their next respectable Intel rig. Heck, some people just don't want to wait, period, and will wind up buying both *P

Didn't somebody just say that they would work in 865/875 775 boards? Or was that just speculation..

My current upgrade pattern is to get a new machine once every four years. Some people here buy new parts every 6 months. Crazy, I tells ya.

Um, I thought nehalem was supposed to be the 10Ghz netburst sucessor to the tejas, both of which were cancelled like two years ago? Did intel recycle the codename into something else?

We can believe that tejas were cancelled.

But nehalem maybe still live in the lab.

Good to know working for Intel isn't like working for Coke or Pepsi.

I don't think he is an employee of Intel.

I get tired of people bashing Intel and saying AMD is teh ROxor!!!

All you AMD fans out there show me a better price to performance system then the one that follows (And I plan to upgrade to one of the 920 or 930 and locking at 266 fsb again).

P4 630 at 4 ghz
512 mb DDR2 533 fsb
DVD burner and DVD rom
160 gig sata HD
Radeon X300SE 128 mb
Win XP legal copy
Case, PSU, keyboard and mouse
all for $300 or $630 if you include the two 17" LCD monitors I got with it which could've been sold for $150+ each when I got it.

If Dell ever starts to use AMD, AMD will have a chance in the price/performance ring, but until then they don't:

Here is an AMD system I'm trying to put together/that could've been done
500 Watt Ultra X connect $10
Ultra X-Connnect case $5
200 gig maxtor PATA HD $33
DVD burner $22
512 mb of ddr $35
legal copy win XP $30
opteron 144 $150
DVD rom $10
x300SE $50
Motherboard $60

The system above will perform maybe as well as the dell, but requires a ton of deals and MIR's the dell had none of these stipulations.
And I own both a opty 165 and a opty 144, so don't accuse me of being bias

I thought they were brining Yonah to the desktop anyway. If not Asus could always make another adaptor like the CT-479. With the architectural improvements, if it overclocks as well as Dothan, it would be awsome in a desktop. My 1.6 Dothan has been running at 2.4 basicly since I've had it, on stock voltage, with the little dinky heatsink that comes with the CT-479. I eventualy intend to get a Presler to replace my POS 830D, and a Yonah to replace my Dothan. I still have to figure out what my latest loaner chip is though  with Everest saying it's a 6ghz Prescott, and CPUz saying it's a 6ghz Nocona, even though it gets to throttling temps around 3.4ghz.

I am, and I used my bonus to buy my X2..it was the better choice even with my employee discount I used to get the Pentium-D 830.
