Install a 2500k Today, or Wait for Bulldozer?

What Should I do?

  • Install the 990FX board, buy bulldozer when released...

  • or... install the 2500k/Z68 board, return the 990FX and forget bulldozer

Hey Folks

I am about to put a new motherboard in my Rig to prepare to buy a FX-8150 Bulldozer. Everything else stays.

I on impulse, being traditionally an AMD/ATI fan, bought a i5 2500k/Gigabyte Z68 combo which comes tomorrow. Now I've built two 2500k systems in the past for people and easily got both stable at 4.4 and 4.5 Ghz.

My question is this... should I just put in the 990FX board and wait for Bulldozer?

or...

Should I install the 2500k Z68 combo and return the 990FX board?

This system is used for gaming at 1080p mostly, with some lighty duty downloading/browsing/etc.

What do you think? I'm making whatever change tomorrow morning!

Definitely wait for Bulldozer

If you waited this long, might as well wait a bit longer

Depends on how much you want it. Bulldozer looks like it's two weeks away. If you can wait for two more weeks, buy the Bulldozer. If you can't, go with the 2500K/Z68 combo.

I'd personally wait since you've already waited this much. Makes no sense to suddenly buy the 2500k when you could've gotten it months ago.

You have to wait until Oct 12 at the earliest or Nov if the Tank Guys distributor is right.

I'm waiting for BD personally.

The $149 2500k deal this past weekend had me thinking of the switch as well. All weekend I was debating on whether to go to Fry's or not 😀. Well, it's Monday and I didn't go to Fry's so I vote stick with AMD and wait for Bulldozer!

Since you've already gone a step ahead and are about to receive it I wish you luck. It would be much harder for me to resist putting it together once I have it in my hands 😀.

Its decided...its going back. I am returning tomorrow.

As weird as it is, I've used AMD CPU's in every PC built since 2000 (personal PCs), and I've yet to be disappointed. I will admit I loved the overclocking experience I had with the two 2500k systems I built to sell though, it was fun.

I'll wait for bulldozer. Call me crazy, I am

What do you want me to do? Spill the beans and get into big trouble?
:'(

Why not hold onto the 2500K for a bit longer? Things may become much clearer .. soon
:\

I know you can't answer this, but can a Bulldozer really beat a $150 i5 2500k / $110 Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H combo in price/performance for anything except something extremely multi-threaded? I was all set to wait for Bulldozer, then Microcenter deals hit me like a sack of peanuts.

If you got the combo at a good price, why not build a killer (extra) machine with it and sell it for dough? Especially if you've built 2500K systems before...

Okay, here's something you might be able to answer. When does the NDA lift?

Then why ask?
:'(

And define "really beat" ...
:whiste:

No matter what you decide in the end, you should wait for BD. The market will be much greener then, i can promises you this much!!! Even if BD isnt the most powerful CPU, its gonna be priced well and intel will counter.

So Wait!@!!!!!!!!!

just a little longer!!!!!
