While I basically agree, everyone is forgetting the 3dmark05 derby, which always generates great interest.

why does everyone always rain on 3dmark figures? altho its synthetic and isnt a game...great performance in 3dmark generally translates well over to games (maybe not a specific game)

After averaging the game benchmarks between the X850XT PE and the 7800GTX from the big X-bit labs review, the % increase from X850XT PE to 7800GTX was within a percentage point or two from the increase seen in 3DMark05. It's definetely not the greatest benchmark in the world but it has its place and does give a pretty accurate picture of gpu performance.

well we already know ATI tends to do better with Valve games, so expect the R520 to trounce Nvidia there. Doom3 has always been Nvidia's forte, so we can expect them to either get close or tie. 3DMark is usually about dead even. I dunno, I don't think the R520 will provide a compelling enough reason for those who already have 6800's or 7800's to upgrade.

Yeah... I was correct with my prediction that 10k 3Dmark05 is target.

Also, ATI needs to beat the competition by at least 25% with a free 256MB to attract buyers. Don't forget also H.264, and the new cool features in the video dept.

It's should be working for ATI.

Link???????????????????????????????????????????????????

Nice overclock rise4310!!!

Regarding these results: 9k is a nice number, but I'll believe it when I see it tested in final hardware form by Anandtech.

Btw Genx87 - that link with the P2 + 9800 Pro vs the P4 + 9600 was great! I love where they break it down, and although the P2 got almost exactly the same score, on the CPU score it got 1 fps, vs 60 on the P4.

Amazingly, the P2 + 9700 pro was quite competitive against a 1.4 Ghz Celeron + Radeon 8500, posting a solid 8.25 fps vs 8.6 for the Celeron 😉 .

I believe I chose 9000 as the 3dmark05 score of the X1800XT at release in that other thread....Looks like I was dead on...That must be pretty amazing cause that is double my score I get with my 6800NU oc'd to 385/850....It plays everything I want to play with max settings....

my overclocked gtx hits 9100ish with 78.03 and 77.77

havent tried the 8x.xx drivers that are supposedly uses the second core of my x2

you should I saw a few hundred points increase...saw 1000 in 3dmark2k1se

i actually tried with the 81.33 for about 5 min then rolled back cuz i saw quite a few differences in IQ

the soldiers of 3dmark05 are hella shinier...shadows are missing...stuff looks lighter...i didnt even finish the benchmark

i ran aquamark before that tho, not at max OC on cpu or gpu...and realized a 16k increase...rofl!!!

from 99ish thousand to 115000ish

are they buggy in games for you Duvie?

I play limited games but no issues to date...

NFS undergroud 2
Flat out

and tested with noissues in DVD or other media file playback....something I had with the last beta driver release...

I get around 9050 in 3dmark05 with my 7800GTX at 521core and 1403memory and I am pretty happy with that (on 77.77 drivers on my X2 at 2750). It is my memory that is holding me back. Duvie I am eyeballing those OCZ PC4000 1gig sticks at 3-3-2. I am trying to resist but I just don't know how long I can hold out. I have two Patriot 1 gig dimms at 195 at 1.5-3-2-7 right now on my DFI NF4 SLI board.

I doubt it will give 7800 users reason to upgrade, but I'm hoping it will give anyone who's been holding out good reason.

I agree 100%.

Actually, I think that after all I will just pass on this generation to get my high-end monster card. R600 looks nice...
