Change doesn't come overnight. People have been pooping outdoors for so long that they find the idea of using a room bizzare. You'd be surprised to know that the govt of India gives people money to build toilets in their homes, and actively promotes indoor pooping trough ad campaigns. Unfortunately the uneducated folk don't pay any attention.

I was once talking to a guy from a village and he expressed to me his disbelief about the concept of having a toilet built inside your house. He told me that he can't imagine how people sit in such a cramped place, he tried it once and got claustrophobia, so now he poops in the open and uses their toilet(built with government money) as a storeroom.

India cannot and does not need to become a global superpower, in my opinion. What we do need, is to eliminate poverty, bring about industrialisation, build a strong economy and end the culture of socialism and free handouts from the government. BJP is a right-wing party and in my opinion they are quite capable of that.

The two aims are not mutually exclusive. India was the most prosperous country on the planet until around 1830. This has been proven without a semblance of a doubt.

Wily politician Jawarhar Nehru managed to snag a nationalist movement, the Congress, and turn it into a family owned private entity which has then ruled the nation for over 6 decades. There was no real opposition for most of the time, and he and his descendents managed to lead the nation on the socialist path. The constitution calls it "Secular Democratic Socialist Republic". Mainly it consists of blatant minority appeasement, with the sole aim of harvesting their votes, yet keeping them in utter poverty, ignorance and illiteracy, and filled with fear about the bogeyman opposition who will deprive them of their rights. They have divided the nation on the basis of language, and exploited the regions by religion, caste and region.
