In this clown world it's hard to know parody from reality

TBH, I sometimes lapse into parody almost spontaneously. I used to do this more but I did it so much it's just part of me. A lot of people, you just have to put them on, it's the only way to maintain your sanity.

Just came by to shitpost.

I sort of understand peeps wanting to think of themselves as one sex or another, but even binary choices are now, at least in some circles, considered restrictive.

I can see racial "identity" eventually becoming somewhat fungible - if so, we'll Michael Jackson to thank for that. Did you know that there is now a topical ointment that can restore areas of skin suffering from vitiligo (a fairly common issue for a lot of black folk) back to it's original color. So I suspect that either thru genetic manipulation and or new drugs, it will probably be possible to have whatever skin tone you choose.

My problem with all of this is that I'm somehow expected to care about this shit. I don't, mainly because I just can't. I'll do what I can, within reason. So, I won't ask fat girls if they're pregnant. If someone wants to go by them/they, that really is a pretty ridiculous expansion of that usage but sure. I'll make my usual half-ass effort. But seriously, ya' all need to create some new pronouns and such because that gets real old real fast.

The only impact to you is maybe you have to change the pronoun you use to address that particular individual. Big woopiddy doo. You also have the choice to not interact with that person.

It is such small problem it doesn't warrant thinking about.

Nutty Squirrel had to bring up an example from UK. He lives 3,400 mi from London UK... And the case he brought up isn't even about LGBTQ

The worst part is he is a minority (less than 2% of world population is red headed) but decided he had to be right wing in order to preserve the status quo. The same status quo that persecuted red heads...

Neopronouns have existed since the 80s (really, longer if one wants to dig into the etymology), people tend to hate them (example: ze/zir/xe/xem) even more than singular they (which has a history that goes back centuries). Spivak pronouns (e/em/eir) are closer to "standard" but the fact they're different at all still seems to generate ire.

Maybe Red wants to see race based pronouns but we probably shouldn't go there.

Incidentally, Farsi (Persian) has no gender pronouns at all. One has to determine gender from names and context.

That doesn't sound like fun at all.

Honestly based on personal experience, "trans" women can sometimes be picked out because they're just too hot looking/flawless to be realistic. (IRL "supermodel" looks are rare)

If you doubt this, head on over to an "escort-listing" website and check out how many of the prettiest "girls" are actually "trans"... more than you would think! (the vast majority are upfront about it btw which I totally respect)

I mean, you can typically charge a premium as a trans woman if you've still got your original equipment...

Not my thing personally but I have zero problem with it ... frankly as long as nobody is getting hurt and it's consensual I have zero problem with MOST things!

And based on the number of ads for "chicks with dicks" I see posted I believe you are 100% correct about the price-premium they're getting! (mostly from old white Republican men I'm guessing!)

;)

To be 100% clear I also have ZERO problem with any pronoun a person chooses to use to refer to themselves, however I feel the need to point out that back in the day, people got offended when referred to as "they" or "them", especially older ladies.

So to older folks those pronouns are often considered "rude" for reasons that have nothing to do with sexual identity.

Spoken Mandarin is the same (written is different, there are separate characters for he/she). when speaking to a native Mandarin speaker in English it is SUPER common for them to mix up he/she.

You know, this is literally the first time I've ever heard of this being a thing. Why would they have been referred to as they/them back in the day?

I can personally recall being chastised several times for referring to people as "them" ... it was considered disrespectful. (including by my mom)

Not like I have some "nefarious agenda" I'm trying to justify btw .... just reporting what I experienced as a kid.

Still unclear.

Example:

Mom, what's wrong with them?

Hush! Don't refer to them as "them"!

So my question, what were you told to refer to them as?

Usually "ma'am" or "Miss/Mrs" <insert last name>. :)

And as I mentioned I have no motivation to make this up.... remember to understand reality now you need to be aware of the past.

Hmm..I guess when you use them, you would look in their direction or point in that direction and that would be considered rude. I remember my father telling me strictly as a child not to point my finger at people.

I heard the same stuff. I think it's all stupid. Don't like what you hear, translate to something else.

I no longer care one iota what ANYONE thinks of my sexual preferences. (although I also am 99% "straight")

Remember EVERYONE has at least some "bi" tendencies and the more concerned folks are with hiding it, the more of a problem it seems to become.

Having said that I understand EXACTLY why a lot of gay/bi people are afraid to "come-out" in 'murica.

For awhile as a teen I was literally terrified that I might be gay. (or worse my "friends" would think I was) The EXTREME relief I felt when I realized I genuinely did prefer women sexually is upsetting to reflect back on because of what it says about our messed up hateful world.

That too but the word itself was the primary issue.... I already knew not to "point" or "casually gesture" towards an elder in particular but really towards anyone because I was taught proper manners! (a rare thing these days!)

;)
