what is the least amount of time it will take to get everyone from the car to the building?

19minutes maybe? Or have I just made myself look more stupid than usual?

I agree, 19 min

Is that because you've conciously said the 'last' person takes 1minute to do the trip? i.e you could make the 10minute slacker go last and would only take 1 minute?

D'ah well, I got the usual answer at least.

That one is easy. It is just taking the fastest with the slowest walker, and going back and using the fastest with slowest the whole time to limit the lag time going back.

Thats what gets 19 min. I remember seeing this, but I forget how to make it less.

But that gives 19minutes, so apparently not.

EDIT: As Scott said :)

Nope. Volume and surface area problem (think density and volume displaced).

that is the approach that everyone believes is best and what results in a time of 19 minutes. however, the solution requires less than 19 minutes.

5+10 go there
2 comes back
2+1 go there

and we are done in: 17

Yeah, I'm still waiting to hear the answer on the rope one too... I suggested an answer earlier in the post, but I haven't heard if it's right or not.

Think of words that end in -gry. Hungry and Angry are two of them. There are three words in the english language. What is the third word?

Answer

The answer is language. It should really be written as There are three words in "The English Language." I just didn't want to give it away in case somebody hasn't seen it before. I actually never could find another word that ends in gry. Thats the best I have for now.

Hungary is an English word

This one is from an old thread.

I have 100 captives.

I tell them that tomorrow I will line them up in single file and place a black or white cap on top of each persons head. Every person can see
If you guess the color of the hat on your head, I will set you free, otherwise I will kill you.

There is a plan to get 99% guaranteed free.

ding ding!

Hahaha... ;) Oops.

That makes much more sense.

**EDIT**
Now that I think about it, this one is the same as the carrot, rabbit, wolf one. Just with numbers.

How do you measure it?

here is a guess.

on one rope, light both ends at the same time and simultaneously light only one end of the other rope. presumably, when the dual-lit rope finishes burning, 1/2 hour will have transpired. when that happens light the other end of the other rope and the time it takes for the remainder of that rope to burn should be 1/4 hour.

if you want to be able to record 15 minutes at any time then when the first rope finishes burning just put out the fire on the second rope. whenever you want to record your 15 minutes, light both ends simultaneously.

Old elementary school riddle -
Two hunters went hunting and shot 188 ducks, they split the loot in half and each got 100. How is that possible?

Rope one: Just fold one piece of rope in half twice, that gives you 1/4 of the rope length, burn it.

Caps: Do they know if other people guess correctly?

oh and btw, Gry (verb) - To rage or roar.
