I just want a burger place that'll cook to order and get me a burger that hasn't been cooked to shit. I'll risk the E.Coli for a tasty burger.

My conclusion is people who say they don't like In-N-Out have never eaten at In-N-Out.

Five Guys can DIAF with that trash they sell.

I was exaggerating with "sub-standard". It was part of the joke. :p In-n-out is fine, I'd certainly eat there over McDonald's, but it's hardly amazing or anything special. And not nearly as good as Five Guys.

(To be fair I have never eaten at a Five Guys outside of N. Virginia, where they started, so I have no idea if the wide-spread franchises are as good as the ones here.)

I supplement with Church's. It's next in line of quality, imo. Popeye's is mostly as offensive as KFC in my book! :p

I've eaten at Togo's once, but the closest one that I know if is 30 minutes away. No Jamba Juice, really? I thought those were everywhere by now

Lexington is great, of course. I'm a big fan of Wilbur's down on 70, as well as the standards, like Smithfield's. For what is in all sense of the term a fast food franchise, Smithfield's is damn epic.

My favorite in Raleigh is Ole Time. Last time I was home (January), I flew back 4 pints of frozen Ole Time BBQ. Fuck, it was glorious.

I've never been to Wilbur's or Ole Time. Fuck, Ole Time is even right in Raleigh... how did I miss this :( Smithfield's is all right. Better than anything I've had in Boston but still it's not too hard to do better in NC.

Have you been to Allen and Son in Chapel Hill? I just remembered them... pretty high quality too.

Also in regard to KFC being rancid shit: there is ONE place where KFC is actually quite good. China. :D While not as good as Boj's still, it's damn tasty.

Don't bash on in-n-out :p It's the best fast-food type burger I've had anywhere. And it cost less than say Wendy's. I wouldn't eat there regularly b/c there's only so much processed meat I can take, but it's excellent for satisfying that occasional craving.

Edit: Now that y'all mention it, I will concede that in-n-out fries are not that good. But that's OK b/c I just eat 3 or 4 burgers instead.

in other news, Orange County getting it's second Sonic

Was lucky enough to visit one in Las Vegas. mmm Strawberry Limeaid.

Their food isn't that good but I love their happy hour. I go there whenever I visit my buddy in Fullerton. Where's the 2nd one opening up?

Oh and I tried 5 Guys and it is overpriced and doesn't taste as good as In-n-Out.

In N Out is SO over rated. Just like Avatar.
People just think it's cool to like it. Posers.

Five Guys is definitely better than In-N-Out

I had five guys and wasn't impressed at all. I loved In N Out though, not the best burger ever but outstanding for fast food and a great price.

It will probably be Austin since we are basically a suburb of Los Angeles these days.

Seriously. Damn Californians need to get out and stop acting like Austin isn't in Texas.

For me, In-N-Out has the commitment to quality and cleanliness. I recently the book written about In-N-Out and this very private company, and I do have to admit, I was impressed by their business practices.

Harry Snyder, the man behind it all, was a stickler on how his restaurants were run. He didn't believe in debt, so at the beginning, In-N-Out owned all their stores, meaning the land the stores also stood on. Nowadays, that's nearly impossible if they want to continue expanding, but they had a very low debt load when the company started.

He had his own butchers, mandated the width of the slices of the tomato, decreed only certain parts of the lettuce could be used, along with specific instructions on the sponge for the buns. The only newer additions to the menu have been adding Dr. Pepper and 7-Up (secret menu excluded.)

He always believed, from the beginning, if you pay your employees quality wages, you will get quality work. All employees started at the same place - sweeping up and taking out the trash, before they "graduated" to the fries, the grill, or leafing the lettuce. CA In-N-Out employees make 10 dollars an hour - they have always paid well, and it actually shows in their employees. It might look like a bunch of young high schoolers, but they are very well trained and are actually competent. The company also believes in promoting from within, and excellent managers do move up in the company, managing new stores and going to corporate. There was a time they had too many good managers and not enough stores.

I don't really care if the "fries suck." I actually like the fact I could watch the employees wash, peel, slice, fry and serve the potatoes instead of coming out of a brown paper bag from a distribution center halfway across the country, frozen two months before.

Hmm, this post makes it sound like I drink a lot of In-N-Out kool aid...

Having been to the place this doesn't surprise me at all.

The rep on the phone said the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex was definitely getting "more than one" In-N-Out, but said they couldn't comment on the exact locations. Apparently Anna, TX is one of the candidates for a distribution center - that might give them Tulsa, and Little Rock markets, maybe part of Louisiana also.

Anna? Good luck finding people who want to live THERE, lol.

Haha don't need people to move there, just enough unemployment that everyone in town will work there. And that's most small towns in Texas (or the US in general).

I would imagine Dallas/Fort Worth will get 10 or so while Austin and Houston both get a few.

ask for them well done and they are crispy perfection

Fuck yeah! Them fries are fuckin' awesome crispy.... want overkill? Time to go animal style on both the fries and burger... and have grilled onions on top of both too while you're at it.

For "real" burgers as some people mentioned, we have Hut's here in Austin that easily puts 5 Guys to shame.

If you live in Austin and you want to have the best burger ever, then it is an absolute crime to go anywhere but here: http://www.casinoelcamino.net/

You wouldn't even think they had burgers just by walking by, but they have won all kinds of awards for them. Simply the best burger I've had in a restaurant, anywhere in the country.

fast food generally needs at least 25 places in the area for a distribution center to make sense.

I'm sure Dallas/FW, Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Oklahoma City, and Little Rock can support more than 25 stores.

Being from Kentucky, my only experience with In-and-Out was the immense praise it got here. Last summer, I vacationed in LA, and eating there was on my to-do list. The wife and I both really liked the burgers, definitely good food, but I don't understand the love affair with it.

The love affair is because it's always good, In-N-Out is the only place where I know 100% it'll be delicious. I've had bad burgers everywhere else, even the fancy places the charge $11 bucks for one. In-N-Outs consistency is remarkable. I've eaten there well over 100 times and every visit was as good as the last.

as a california native, george's >>>>>>>>> in n out.

http://www.georgesburgers.com/

I don't get why people here always do this. They try to compare a small little chain with less than a handful of places to something like In-n-Out with thousands of places in different states. Can't even compare the two. Also I feel more concerned about you living in the IE. No one WANTS to live there.

exactly, if they're planning a distribution center they're going to have a lot of stores (likely at least that many in dfw alone)
