The school gives out reward coupons for McDonalds for receiving good grades. That's nothing new. They did it with Dairy Queen when I was in elementary school.

wasn't it called the "reading for Pizza" progrm or something like. It ran over the summer and for every 10 or 12 books you read, you got a personal pan pizza or something?

Heck, Krispy Kreme used to give you a free donut for getting an A on your report card. Thing is, they didn't get to advertise ON your report card when you got it. They just had a little sign at the counter. I'd rather have a donut than McDs anyday.

Nah, that was a different program, but we had that too.

Pathetic. How about the damn parents do their jobs and make sure the kids are studying, doing their homework and getting good grades instead of the schools handing out vouchers for hamburgers, pizzas, etc... to the kids in order to bride them to study?

Wait? What am I saying? Hell that would require some responsibility on the part of the parents instead of them relying on the school system to act like a nanny.

Nevermind...I guess I just lost my mind there for a minute and expected people to take an interest in their kids. What a dumbass I am.

It's interesting that McDonald's shows concerns over good grades considering their employee pool is made up of the educational rejects.

God forbid there would be some form of external motivation. Maybe a combination of the two would work even better than either alone. Inconceivable!

Back in the day, a local arcade gave out tokens for games based on grades. It seems like an A = 2 tokens, B = 1 token.

I miss the golden age of arcades. :(

It's better psychologically to imbue a sense of internal motivation for children. Obviously, it's still good to have a little external motivation, but it is best to minimize it and allow for internalization of the that motivation.

BookIt wasn't bad. They also did the good grades for tokens thing around here too.

Eh, there is an eternal debate over which is best. Most everything we do is based off of operant conditioning, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Edit: Not to mention, children have little capacity for internal motivation.

Yeap! That's it. My brain is not working today. I think i still have the BookIt coupons somewhere. I would do the reading (I just loved to read), but would never redeem the coupons. I earned a crap load of them too. so did my brother.

Book It worked well. But it was a really small pizza for a real ton of reading. I mean you'd have to be an exceptionally motivated fat person to gain weight off that plan.

All I got for good grades was not being on restriction and no pain from not getting spanked for bad grades. Damn, I would have liked a cheeseburger.
