I want to do the same thing BTW. I was on my way to being a pretty good 3, but I got seriously injured 2 months ago, and haven't fully recovered. It set me back a lot. Probably a cat-4 now. Can only go 23-24 mph constant on a flat now... 🙁
You can petition USCF for a downgrade if you want. I personally wouldn't do this as the 4's tend to crash more than the 3's do.
😉
That is an incentive to stay infront of the pack.
Definitely. Racing from the back is a good way to end up on the pavement every weekend.
Plus, if you're up front and you hear a crash behind you, you can attack to form an instant breakaway.
😉 Yeah, I know. But I crashed because I did something stupid. Not even a race, just training. Went on a new route, pulled out the map. The road was clear and it was a pretty new road, so I took my hands off of the handlebars to check the route, had my eyes on the map, and hit a big pothole (mind you this is almost a brand new road :| <but seriously dumb on my part>). Went headfirst off my bike skidded to a stop on my right leg on the gravel, but I landed really hard. Not just road rash... and I lost my helmet. Now my bikes crank is messed up, the wheel are not true, the frame is scratched to bits, and my shoes are played out. Nothing broken, I think, but my right leg hasn't been the same since.
Although, with all of this, I have a realyl good excuse to upgrade my bike.
😉
