That what I have heard from every roadie I came across, while MTB riders doesn't complaint as much ;)

True to some extent, but MTB shoes aren't stiff enough for serious road riding/racing IMHO.
True, however most people that own only one pair of cleat do not race.

I'm too old to race, but not too old to ride.
<-- misses my roadie & cross country/downhill days :(
You're never too old to race. That's the great thing about cycling. Ned Overend just turned 50 and he's still whipping people's asses.

My shoes too unless mine are the '05 model (is there a difference?). They rock! The Geniuses, even the Megas simply didn't fit right. Look red cleats, BTW.
I'm looking forward to giving the Pro Carbons a try. They feel better right out of the box, so I'm hoping they'll work for me on the road.

Speedplay Zeros here. Scraped one for the first time last weekend in a crit. :Q

I was going to buy those! After I tried on a few different sizes I went with the sidis, they felt better at the store. Hopefully they work well when I actually ride with them on!

My bike isnt anything special, just a Lemond Tourmelet. I used to MTB alot and got into cycling a few months back
Riding is 90% rider anyway. As long as your bike isn't some 45 pound POS from Target, there's no need to spend $5000. I didn't even buy race wheels until this year when I finally got serious about catting up.

I'm a 3 working on moving up to race with the big boys next year in Pro/1/2.

Yes, I'm a masochist. :p

Yup! That is what you are ;)

Prepare to be drop off once you are riding with the pro.

I learned my lesson early in life. I had a season as pro and found that I was just another regular joe that should stick with my day job.

I want to do the same thing BTW. I was on my way to being a pretty good 3, but I got seriously injured 2 months ago, and haven't fully recovered. It set me back a lot. Probably a cat-4 now. Can only go 23-24 mph constant on a flat now... :(

You can petition USCF for a downgrade if you want. I personally wouldn't do this as the 4's tend to crash more than the 3's do. ;)

I want to see how far I can go as an amateur. I won't say the 3's are "easy", but I want something a bit more challenging at this point. If it's way over my head, I can always just do Master's racing since I'm 35 next year.

That is an incentive to stay infront of the pack.

Definitely. Racing from the back is a good way to end up on the pavement every weekend.

Plus, if you're up front and you hear a crash behind you, you can attack to form an instant breakaway.

;) Yeah, I know. But I crashed because I did something stupid. Not even a race, just training. Went on a new route, pulled out the map. The road was clear and it was a pretty new road, so I took my hands off of the handlebars to check the route, had my eyes on the map, and hit a big pothole (mind you this is almost a brand new road :| <but seriously dumb on my part>). Went headfirst off my bike skidded to a stop on my right leg on the gravel, but I landed really hard. Not just road rash... and I lost my helmet. Now my bikes crank is messed up, the wheel are not true, the frame is scratched to bits, and my shoes are played out. Nothing broken, I think, but my right leg hasn't been the same since.

Although, with all of this, I have a realyl good excuse to upgrade my bike. ;)

Bingo. :D

I'm playing this angle to get in on the team's pro deal next year. I've really beaten the snot out of my Steelman. :(
