Yep, find another job, put in your two weeks with your supervisor and HR citing a higher paying job, if they choose to match it, great, if not, enjoy your new job.

This man speaks the truth.

Time to speak to your manager, politely ask for a raise by review time, and then look for a job elsewhere if they don't give you the raise.

Sh*t you are right... I've been worried about walking in and asking but why should I be? They are short on emps and I am pretty much the highest producer. They honestly cannot afford to lose me right now. I need to get in there and tell them, its not like they are going to ask me if I want a raise. If they won't give it I'll have my notice in hand ready to toss in their face.

At my last job, I quit three times (well 4 if you count the last one) the first time I told them that I didn't like what I was doing, so they moved me into another department with ~4% raise, the next two times I quit I told them that I had another job lined up that was paying more, they matched both times (at this point I was making about 75% more than my starting pay, which tbh my starting pay was pretty low, but after all of the raises I was doing pretty well) so the last time I went in to quit, partly to see what I could get away with, but partly because my business was starting to take off and I wasn't happy working for someone else, so I went in and told them that I had a job offer for $31 an hour (I was only making $17 an hour at the time) They finally said they couldn't match that and wished me luck :D

It may sound stupid, but I quit my highschool job for the exact same reason. New hires were comming in at more than I was making, and the manager refused to discuss it until review time some 8 months away. So I quit!

Yeah I worked hard, they didn't complain, but I definitely wouldn't play that game with one of my employees heh. Of course, I can do all of their jobs, so the idea that they aren't replaceable is laughable to me.

I'm a great employee, I have above average stats (read: micromanaged) that means I do more than my fair share of work and am rarely late or absent. I've been denied promotions because of policy change for 2 years now. We have tests that when passed give a raise... THEY WONT LET ME TAKE THE FLIPPING TEST!!!

Annual review time is around the corner and I'm going to be given the paltry 3% raise that still will not bring me to the level of the new employees.

Any suggestions on what I can do about this?

a) how do you know the noobs are making more $ when starting?

b) why havent you spoken to your mgr already? heck, i would have spoken to him at the 1st sign that noobs were being paid more than i was after 5yrs on the job.

c) have letter of resingation with you during the meeting. as soon as he says no, IMMEDIATELY present him with the letter. now the balls in his court...

OP, you need to find another job. End of story.

Fairness means going BOTH way. If you busted your tail and didn't get a fair compensation, time to move on.

All I can say is start putting your resume out there on the market and hit the pavement to find a better paying job. Don't just be satisfied with the status quo.

yeah your employer probably assumes that you think you are making more than new hires. Call them on it.

Don't threaten to quit, it's implied if you ask for a raise, which is exactly what you should do.

I'd have a new job lined up first though.

<---3 diffferent jobs last year, got a nice raise each time I jumped ship. My employers view me as a commodity so I behaved like one:)

My ex-gf was working at a company for six months and her boss came to her to tell her that after reviewing their new hires, they relized they had low-balled her. They gave her a raise to bring her up to par.

She works for Guidant in the Bay Area.

One of my friends asked for a promotion and got a lame excuse in response. She does good work (especially relative to her peers), and she feels like she's being snubbed. I advised that she look for another job even if she has no intention of leaving her present job. Once she's got an offer, I suggest she let her boss know she's been looking and has another offer to see if they really don't feel she deserves a promotion.

What she's got going for her is that her employer would be in a world of hurt if she left. That's her leverage.
