Changing my name to Frank on my citizenship app from a traditional muslim name. The name refers to a member of the Germanic tribe, the Franks. The Franks settled in the regions now called France and the Netherlands in the 3rd and 4th century. They derived their tribal name from the name of a type of spear that they used. So what do you guys think? Any other suggestions?

Reasons why I want to change my name:
1. Not an easy name for people to remeber
2. I've denounced my religion of Islam. Now I'm atheist/agnosic
3. Don't like it personally
4. Really hard to pronounce for most people

That doesn't mean you should turn you back on your heritage IMO, remember, even if you change your name to Frank, you still won't be white 🙂

Btw, I'm planning on keeping my original first name as a middle name.

it'll take a lot more than just changing his name if he wants to forget his culture or skin color

Thanks for pulling the race card. Btw, just b/c I'm changing my name doesn't mean I'm turning back on my heritage, anyways, I'm planning on keeping my old name as a middle name instead which i stated in the thread.

Too many immigrants in the past were forced to change their name in hopes to "conform"

It's your decision, but if you are going to change, why not go for something like "George Herbert Walker"?? 😉

Frank is not too cool a name. Makes me think of a 60 year old chainsmoker. Why not something cool like "Zacharius" or "Wedge"?

I like "Zacharius." I think i'll add that to my list of options.

I'll be Frank with you. Frankly speaking, I think you should choose a different name. Unless you are swiss and want to be refer to as money(franc).

Though there are some good points..

Member of a Germanic-speaking people who invaded the western Roman Empire in the 5th century.

The Franks lived east of the Rhine River in the 3rd century and came under Roman influence. They gained control of northern Gaul by 494 and southern Gaul by 507, and the conversion of their leader Clovis I to Catholic Christianity won them the support of the clergy and the Gallo-Roman population in Gaul. The Franks established one of the most powerful kingdoms of the early Middle Ages, ruling lands in present-day France (to which they gave their name), Belgium, and western Germany. The Merovingian dynasty to which Clovis belonged was succeeded by the Carolingian dynasty, whose most notable ruler, Charlemagne, created a great empire across Christian Europe. The division of the realm in the 9th century and the subsequent dissolution of a unified Frankish empire foreshadowed the formation of the modern countries of western Europe.

i dont understand why people are so ashamed of their name that they gotta legally change it. i got a tradional muslim name too and i remember wanting to change it when i was young but now that i think about it, it would have been dumb. the only way I would change my name is if my parents gave me some dumbass names like crimefighter, moonunit or pilot (yes, all real names).

Is your name difficult to pronounce?

Okay, I'm gonna start ignoring people who keep mentioning this heritage bs, my main reason for changing my name is becasue its difficult for people to say and remeber. jeez.
