I did not see this question posted before: How much of a dowry did you give to her parents?

Also it was not clear if she came back with you or are you going back to get her in a month?

The figure isn't set yet. I go back in March for the actual wedding. My dad and my uncle will discuss the amount of the dowry a few days prior to the wedding. I was told it would be around $1,500.0 and the dowry money is actually going to be used to pay for the wedding dinner.

I have to apply for a k-3 visa once we are married so she won't be here till at least 2008.

In the meantime, I can max out my WoW character to Lvl 70 when Burning Crusades come out.

2008 damn. A K-3 visa sounds like a lot of paperwork and wasted time waiting. The US has a much faster immigration law where it only takes a visiting female 9 months to obtain permanent resident status.

If you get "working on it" before she travels over here the waiting time is even less.

But seriously when you said that you "got married there" was that just an informal ceremony or a legal wedding? Are you married or engaged? Did you give her a ring?

Amazing how some people can get married to a complete stranger....

Anyway, some people date for years, get married and get divorced a few months / years later.

Why not try getting married and date / live together all @ once...

Isn't the chinese gov't paying for free chinese lessons?

Japan seems like a nicer country, but chinese women look better. Which to choose, a world where you're happy, or a better looking wife?

OTOH I've heard Japanese women love Americans, so maybe it wouldn't be so hard to find a good looking one.

Japanese women love Koreans, Japanese men love Chinese. Koreans got really popular after the korean dramas started playing over in Japan and all of Asia.

In 2003 there were 800,000 marriages in Japan. Out of the 800,000 marriages less than 1% were interracial.

Interracial marriage stats:

Japanese men marry:
Chinese 10,242
Filipinos 7,794
Koreans 5,318
Russians 1,219

Japanese women marry:
Koreans 5,318
Americans 1,529 (20%, 306 african-american)
Chinese 890
British 334
Source: 2003 Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare of Japan

The dating figures are even higher for Koreans. Some articles on the subject: Article1, Article2,
Article3, Article4. A lot Asia is going through this korean phenomenon known as Hallyu.

That is 100% incorrect.

What is disturbing is that more people are calling shens on the fact that he got married then the fact that he has 4 lvl 60 accounts in WOW..... I'm calling shens on the accounts...

Congrats.

One of my cousins did something similar. He went back to China to visit his old village and came back married. I think my other cousin is going to do the same because my mom mentioned that he was planning on going to China for "vacation". They were both born in China and came to live here when they were about 12 or so (can't remember exactly offhand).

The first time I heard of this practice was when I was very young and we were picking up my uncle at the airport. He was coming back from vacation in Hong Kong. When he arrived, I asked my mom, "Who is that girl with uncle?". My mom replied, "That's his wife". And I said, "His wife? Since when did he even have a girlfriend?"

My mom has asked if I wanted help in "meeting" a girl from China but I declined. It just isn't the way I want to do things. But most of these marriages seem to work out well and I wish you much happiness in yours.

Like Wow, congrats. 🙂

I found myself a beautiful young bride to marry while I was in China last month. I went to some internet cafes there and saw all the WoW gold farmers there, most of them were about 12 years old.

Now to Ebay those 500 porn DVD and that blowup doll.

I wish you luck.

I really do.

Had you spoken to her before you went over there or did you first make contact with her there?

Was one of the stipulations of your wife to be the fact that she was a virgin? If so, sorry to say it but I find that kind of shallow.

That being said, I wish you both long and happy lives together!

Thank GOD I was good enough to get an asian chick here than to settle for one back home.

But then again, mail-order is pretty easy...

One of my friends brother got a bride back in SE asia. Boy, she's hot...

man one month meet to marriage...hope you don't plan on bringing her to the states....I give it less than 7 years.

It's actually a pretty good way to find a wife. There is probably some sort of stigma associated with this method but when you think about it, it's really no different than doing online dating which seems to be big these days.
