It will not, and willfully granting this same government (you know, the one spying on everyone and his/her sister) more and more power is alarming to me. This is my disagreement with shadow9d9 more than anything -- I don't necessarily disagree with some of his goals, but I do disagree with granting more power to our government in its current state.

Spying is NOTHING.

Just think about the amount of money (which btw they didn't even have/printed) and transferred it over to their buddies in Corps (Military, Weapons, Defense, Security Companies).

"Terrorism" has probably been the biggest American robbery in the history of man kind.

I won't even get into # of deaths this has brought to American soliders/people and civilian casualties.

All because 2500 people died. US has 2500+ people die on our highways EACH MONTH and our government has done NOTHING when it comes to improving Drivers Education.

Clearly because there is no money to be made.

As George Carlin would say. Everything is just bunch of BS and in America you get the front seats to watch it all!!!

Now we are really getting off topic here, and I'm sorry.

Absolutely. Wasn't it Franklin who said (I'm paraphrasing) something to the effect of "Those who sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither."

We sat by and let it happen. I used to laugh at people who used to tout all these conspiracy-laced ideas about the government, but damn, look at what has happened? More and more corruption, spying on its own people, and the list goes on and on.

Warren buffet wishes taxes to be more fair.

Internet tough guy Indycolt argues against him.

1. That is "distasteful" towards america. Why does he hate america!?

2. If you don't like it, then leave!

3. Why are you TALKING about it!? That doesn't help!

4. Want me to draw him a picture? It will be of Scrooge surrounded by American flags, with my motto, "Fark you. I got mine. God Bless America!"

5. He is just jealous!

6. Hard workers like me enjoy it!

7. It isn't in the constitution!

Unfortunately I don't believe there is really much American people can do. Neither are they willing to sacrifice their comfort/current life to do so.

Our government needs a big reset button and Business/Government needs to be completely separate.

Lobbying should be illegal like it is in the rest of the world. Let's face it, it's legal corruption.

And I would even go as far as saying, go through ALL of the politicians bank account/do audits past 30-40 years and start prosecuting these scumbags for treason (companies involved as well).

Only way to ensure that this never happens again is to make sure these people are punished appropriately.

I still don't see it happening though.....

Yes, but if I turned down insurance, the company would not have compensated me the full amount that they paid for that insurance. That's what you're missing.

Doesn't matter. It is part of your pay package and that money is made on your behalf.

Quoted for everyone to see. A respectful request is met with vile and venom.

It is absolutely disrespectful. I would never give specifics of my business to people on the internet, especially ones with axes to grind. It is absolutely none of your business. Besides, you have already determined me to be jealous based on your vast knowledge!

The tolerance of the left, quoted again. If you don't agree with us, you're small minded or any number of other insults.

Has nothing to do with disagreement. Your arguments are "Leave, you are jealous, you hate america, made up assumptions, and the government shouldn't do it because I say so."

I summarized your arguments exactly as you stated them. Why are you backing away from your brilliant arguments!?!?!?

Referring to someone's own arguments is intolerance now! Amazing!

Personally, I loved your picture of scrooge, with american flags, and your motto!

No, it was a respectful request to ask about your business. I didn't say "tell me the name and address," I said "tell me a little about it, I'm curious."

Oh, and the government SHOULD do it because you say so? Because shadow9d9 thinks he has empathy and therefore, the government should do what he wants? LOL!

1. You are not curious. You have an axe to grind and I have absolutely no reason to share such info. Deal.

2. I simply repeated your "argument" that the government shouldn't, because you said so.

Why do you keep running from your own arguments?

I'm glad you liked it. Can you go ahead and link it so I can see it? Oh, you can't? So I take it you're lying. How very unfortunate.

It's human nature that people want what they haven't worked for be it healthcare, corporate handouts, etc. People deserve 6 weeks of vacation because they "work hard". No thought is made to the actual economic benefit of their work. We often work hard to punish success and reward failure in this country. This takes the form of an expansionist government and taking by force. We have seen this time and again in the form of bailouts, 99 week unemployment, and other subsidies.

Take the OP for example. Has he done anything to justify not working after 34? Did he push himself to start a business? Get a high paying career? Make sacrifices to get ahead? No, he earns a relatively below average pay for his age and has not taken any risks in life to justify his desire to not work. Yet, people as a whole sympathize with him because they "feel bad" for him and demand government action to fix the "problem". I'm not against helping a fellow man in need but people need to be able to properly understand cause and effect of choices.

My peers and myself will have no such luxuries. We have had our generational credit card maxed out by people like the OP to pay for your deserved benefits. Over the course of our lives we will pay far more to the government than we can ever hope to receive in benefits. Most of my generation still lives at home, has crippling college debt, and will not find gainful employment in their field of study.

Yet, despite all of this I was able to work hard and make significant scarifies in my personal live to make a place for myself in this world. Hopefully you can understand how it's hard for me to have sympathy after continuously getting the short end of the stick.

I, like most everyone else on the forum, am intj, and I disagree completely.

What it takes to earn good things and what basic good things each person is owed is very subjective; it isn't a simple matter of id versus super-ego.

I would argue that with (more) profit sharing, more efficient bureaucracy (gov't and private), and less "world's police" BS everyone in the US could have a secure and reasonably comfortable standard of living, and no generation would go broke in the process.

Some people will always be poorer than others, but there's a huge difference between living in the ghetto with no retirement and living modestly but with actual social security.

I coulda sworn this was a thread on alternatives/solutions to the rat race.

Not a regurgitation/debate of what is currently the status quo regarding foreign/domestic policies.

At any rate my 2 bits.

Been doing the rat race for awhile, got suckered into buying property and have been stuck here in the DC area for a bit while the economy and housing prices recover. At some point the shine of moving to a new city died off and I realized it was just the same bs over and over. Couple things I did to gain perspective and mix it up.
Take your hobbies and go deeper.. you might find something there you can build on. Some of us take on 2nd jobs.. not for the cash but to mix it up and off set the balance of monotonous work. If you have the cash and time take classes, the classes youve always wanted to take, ie improv comedy, personal training, cooking.. etc. Branch out and expand.. Volunteer! DC isnt the greatest city by any means.. I personally would rather be in Chicago/NYC.. but thats another story.. however, DC does have some options.

DO travel.. while some argue first world problems... go see how 1/3+ of the other people out there live.. in mudhuts playing with dirt. Youll grow as a person and gain perspective.

As far as pay/vacation are concerned - I negotiate the shit out of a job offer till I get damn near all of what i want. Ive had at least 4 weeks of paid vacation plus 10+ holidays at any job Ive taken. Currently I get 4 weeks/holidays/ and optional 9/80 weeks.. which I use.
So thats 26 fridays + 10 holidays + 20paid vacation days off. Plus weekends. Not horrific by any means.

Everyone is different, so I wont speak for whats best for others. In the case of US vs Europe, most of us sitting here in front of a computer working in the first world most likely have the ability to move wherever they want. You think its better over here or there then go.. It make take awhile.. but if you really think its a better fit for your lifestyle then do it. Why not? You only get one life.

Presently, going to stockpile cash up with the hopes of backpacking/travelling around the world for 6-18 months. Itll take some time, but hopefully I get there. And afterwards hopefully Ill know what I want to do with the rest of my life.. and if its the rat race, Im sure itll still be there when I get back.

In the end its up to you to figure something out.. do it now.. tommorow isnt promised today and life is short. My preference is to have tried and failed, rather than look back on opportunities I didnt take.

Just like you knew I was "jealous" or that I hate america right? Convenient!

Cool, and I responded with your argument that the government should do what you want simply because you said it should.

You never even asked me why they should. You were the one that gave a reason for why they shouldn't and I simply repeated it!
What arguments would those be?

I summarized them in the Warren Buffet example!

Remember folks, repeating someone's arguments back to them is intolerance!

Saying that someone shouldn't talk about issues, are jealous, and should leave the country? Tolerance!

I'm not backing away from my arguments. You're just too dense to understand them.

When I repeated your arguments, you called me intolerant for repeating them : ).

It would amazing if even the lowest of IQs would have trouble with your "arguments." They are built upon the most base and simple human feelings. Greed, ego boosting, and selfish. I'll repeat them again.

1. That is "distasteful" towards america!

I think it is important for everyone to see what the opposition to worker rights in the US is like.

I'll add one.

8. Even though I just told you not to talk about it and to leave the country, you are intolerant of ME! I am the victim!

Take it to PM.

There is nothing further to discuss with you.

These are the "arguments" used against bettering the US workplace. It is important that they were brought up. It is important to post them in order for people outside the US(who are completely baffled at the attitude and selfishness of the US) to understand how the typical greedy american thinks.

It is even worse that the poor are convinced that they are temporarily embarrassed wealthy people, and continue to fight against their own interest. At least you are benefiting from something over others... You are just motivated by base greed and selfishness. This part is at least understandable, as gross as it is.

The reason people like OP end up burning out is because the US, compared to other first world countries, is overworked, has little safety net, very poor pensions, poor benefits, very little vacation, little time with family when having a family, etc.

I would love to discuss it more with some mature individuals (not overly emotional whiners like you), but we have been accused of thread derail and therefore, I promised I will not discuss it any further unless it is in P&N or PMs as to avoid getting the thread locked. In other words, I respect the others in this thread, unlike you.
