My most serious game days were on a PC but life caught up to me (read: less time for gaming) and having an up to date PC ultimately became more of a hassle than a few hundred dollar console. It's been so long since I had a PC now that I can't quite remember how damn awful FPS games are without a mouse and so I actually enjoy them with the controller.

Yeah, and I can't believe how many people will say "If it doesn't have achievements I won't buy it". As if somehow the game can be good or bad based on that alone. Especially when a lot of them are kind of dumb and reward you for just doing what you're supposed to do in the game "you reached level 2, congrats here's your trophy".

See the problem is, a lot of people use 'Achievements' as validation for their own self esteem. In short, if they can't prove themselves 'Better' than someone else, then what is the point of playing. They use it as pretty much bragging rights.

Only who cares? Yeah, you have more free time to play Halo than I do. I'm having SEX with a woman. Who wins that? but then the "lot of people" that you are citing are probably 12 year olds.

This post highlights a huge problem with you and your psyche, not achievements. If you don't want to do them then don't. If you aren't having fun then stop. There's something wrong with not being able to control yourself when you know you're not enjoying the experience.

Have you looked for professional help?

Have to agree... Who gives a toss about achievements anyways...

You attempted to complete all the achievements and they just keep adding more faster than you can keep up. As a completionist I need some finality to it. Then add the exclusive ones like server firsts, limited time for special pets and mounts with a .01% drop rate before it gets removed, etc, and it's just pressure overload like you can never log out without missing something forever. And you're supposed to farm, make money, and raid too?

Achievements: one of the deadly sins that has ruined modern gaming.

I get being a completionist. However, this really speaks to self restraint. Just because you go hiking every once in a while, doesn't mean that you aren't real until you have taken Everest. Set your own internal 'Finish' point.

For me, I gage what portion of the game is reasonable to complete (I don't do or care about achievements), and I call that complete. Example, I play Metroid Zero Mission on my DS. I have never gotten 100% of all the items in the game. And although it is possible, I simply don't have the time or mental focus to power through them all. Because it is just a game.

set some self control. Assign completion points and work towards them. Otherwise you become a slave to whatever the Devs want to put out there.

You spend your time on a tech forum?

People who have never even had a PC that wasn't a Gateway, HP, or Dell are asking me about building a PC to use as a media box(htpc) and for some games.

Not just on here dude.

My main gaming device is a PC, but I still like consoles. I just don't get most of the games on them. Tends to be platform exclusives.
