I just built a PC for $800 that can play anything without issue and haven't touched my PS3 since. The games are better, the gaming is better, and I trust my build quality a thousand times more than any Xbox or PS3. It's funny that people will pay $400 for an Xbox, $600 for a PS3, but refuse to drop just a minute amount more for a vastly superior system.
Consoles get more AAA games than PCs. They also get a better blend of games.

I have no idea why people like to argue PC vs consoles. Totally different experience. They can coexist.

Well...in the past consoles and PC's had inherently different breeds of games. I used to love gaming on both console and PC for the different experience they gave. Occasionally you'd get a PC game ported over to a console that may or may not be really the same.

Today, they are for the most part..the same (if not exactly the same with all the ports coming from consoles instead). This lessens the need for dedicated consoles, sure you have the obscure title you miss out on, but you have plenty of others to bide your time....look at all the ppl with pages and pages of Steam games they've never touched.

This in itself doesn't make me not want consoles --- but it weighs heavily in my decision of if I want to pay the price they want for everything.

For me :

Console : Sports, Fighting, Racing (if they made Forza and/or GTA for PC, then this would be different)

PC : Everything else

Playing FPS on a console makes me want to vomit blood, and playing sports on PC is basically impossible (where's the NFL and NBA games?).

At least consoles are so cheap that it's not a big deal to do both. If I had to choose one, it'd be PC. I skip consoles for their first year or two though. You get a cheaper deal, sometimes a revised console, more game/accessory selection, etc, etc.

consoles do get better exclusives, thats why i use a PS2 emulator. i played Persona 3 FES for over 100 hours last year on my PC at 1080P with forced AA :D

so many years have passed and still no XBOX\PS3 emulators on the pc?

The funny thing is that I feel the opposite of the author. I don't want to have to deal with the issues of playing games on a Console. I haven't had one since the PS2 that I didn't use, so I don't know the nuances of what you need for modern consoles. My computer is simple and easy to use, and I don't have to worry about learning a funky control system based on a gamepad.

I'm not a big fan of newer console games they just aren't that fun.I still play ps2 games and I really like old sega , ps1&2 and n64 games. Not sure if it is me but the older games just seem so much better then most of the new ones.

most of the new pc games seem less exciting as well and I still find myself looking at older games from 98-06.

Torchlight 2 is the best rpg hack&slash Ive played since D2.

Yeah, I didn't see that either. It's funny how strongly everyone feels about them in this thread, though. Personally, I like achievements as long as their only purpose isn't to try to make a game with little substance longer than it really is.

That's just your opinion. Is there Civilization, or Total war or Starcraft on consoles? No, those are "PC exclusive" if you will. Although I imagine mainly because they can't be played with a controller.

City builders/management games? No. Mods? no. Inane farming equipment or train simulators? no (I don't care, but I'm sure someone does)

And btw; Wikipedia tells me Persona is an RPG, I'm pretty sure there are a few of those on PC too, even if not that exact one..

Let's not argue over a generations ago console. PS2 really can't be included in this conversation because we're talking Xbox360/PS3 really. Those are the closest to "PC"s and the same games.

PS2 and earlier was what I was referring to in "different breeds"

Now that they are trying to make consoles be a living room computer they are practically the same. The main difference is TV or no TV -- which even a PC can do fine -- if not a bit awkward for some.

I guess I agree about sports games and consoles..I forgot about those because I don't bother with them.

read the comments

Frankly, I'm not going to wade through the cesspool that is IGN comments -- especially when it's probably a valid assumption that the comments aren't from the author or any of the quoted IGN personnel. We're commenting on the article not the comments.

Hardly the fault of the article...

I never said it was.

I was making the comment based on some of the assumptions people have about gaming on PC. I wasn't responding to the article directly. Kind of obvious.

yeah seriously. Stopped reading them years ago.

Then don't respond in the thread it really is that simple.

I've had no issues being a PC exclusive gamer all my life and will happily continue to do so. As someone else said they aren't really comparable. Those who try so hard to tell us why one needs to be more like the other should probably stop writing and just go play some games.

Ya...I do wish certain genres would be more available on PC tho. Like racing and action games. Stuff like god of war and forza types.

Well I personally don't care at all for either of those games, but aren't they both exclusives? They are meant to drive specific console sales, you could be an console gamer (xbox) and not get to play God of War, or a console gamer (PS3) and not get to play Forza.

I don't play console games (though I am picking up a Kinect for the wife today, so may try some of those) but I don't even look at the achievement on Steam. Stuff randomly pops up here and there saying I completed such and such, but I just ignore them and continue playing. I don't really get the point of them; achievements in a game should be not dying, beating a boss, or completing a level not some fabricated nonsense that has no relevance to anything.

For the most part achievements are unimportant to me. However, in BF3, several assignments promote squad play to complete. This IMO makes it a much more enjoyable experience.

I didn't know double was just a minute amount more.

I have no problem with achievements either. I pretty much ignore them entirely without a care... until they turn into shackles that keep game play content locked away from me until I grind X amount of kills/caps/etc. That shit pisses me off quick.

I didn't know double was just a minute amount more.

The cost of gaming is in the video card and potentially the power supply if you need a new one. The rest is a computer that serves many other essential functions in a typical modern life that a console does not.

Pretty much all the gamers I know have laptops and a console. People are getting rid of desktops.

Those are console gamers, not PC gamers. Unless they have $1k laptop they aren't doing much gaming with it. In which case, the point about getting rid of desktops is moot.

Exactly, so that's why they buy consoles, because they don't have a desktop that they can just drop a $200 graphics card into. For them (which is most people I know), getting into pc gaming is more than just a couple hundred dollars. It's a tower, a monitor (unless you use your tv), peripherals, Windows, etc.
