As a lifer I'm surprised you're not jaded to it.
Is there a reason you're taking this personally, or just a bad day at the office? Tell me, cause I care about you.
🙂
that's my talent i always take everything and myself too seriously.
OK - Brass tacks:
As a background
I think (which means it's just my opinion) that Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, has racist tendancies... I've even postulated that this is biological, in that the majority of people are sexually attracted to those whose genetic difference is not greatly dissimilar.
Additionaly I'm able to seperate my objective acknowledgement of that racism from the social negative connotation. Racism is by its nature an inflammatory and contentious issue, especially in America.
If I were to say that the OP's action were inspired by a groundless racial bias and that it would behoove him to reassess his reasons for that bias, would it be acceptable?
my problem is:
1. as mosh said earlier there are degrees of racism and yes, in my opinion, there are acceptable levels of "racism".
2. the fact that most of the inflammatory remarks were made by supposedly enlightened people and all they could show is intolerance.
3. you can't get rid of racism by refusing to talk about it.
4. the comment by darkstar above is good example, his implication that only black people know what racism is. puhleease. many people have suffered. many cultures have suffered.
to really get to issues of racism, we have to be willing to discuss it not just shout insults at each other.
