As a service writer for a Toyota dealership, I'd have to go with the TC.
We have had NO issues with these cars, looked at one before I bought my 05 Solara SeV6.
Plus down the road, there are a ton of things you can add to it. the car is solid, quick and looks great too. Plenty of room and enough HP to have some fun too.
You will probably have to pay sticker due to Scion's "pure pricing" policy.
If you do wind up with one get the Flint Mica, you never see them and it's my favorite color.
Go to the Scion site, build one the way you want, print it out and take it to your dealer.if they don't have the car you want the wait is about 3-6 weeks.
good luck with whatever you wind up with.

Bigger motor, more power, better/sportier interior, nice extras like larger rims... the tC is more on par with the RSX IMO

I recently leased a civic SI. The MSRP is under 20k and i was able to get mine for about what i would have payed for the TC. Much nicer car IMO, unless you need it to be an auto.

When did Control-Link MacPherson Strut and Reactive-Link Double Wishbone become known as Independent?

God damn there's a bunch of dumbf*cks on ATOT.

Why the hell I even bother posting is beyond me.

No kidding, that was a painful post by Baked *shakes head* :(

Because not everyone wants a sport coupe, the current gen Civic is great for someone looking for A to B transportation, which the tC isn't. The tC is A to B with frills and a tad more power :p

Sure it is. It's based on the Avensis which is a European family car :p

I've driven my GF's '04 Civic EX adn I've driven a tC. The tC was a quieter, smoother ride. The engine in the EX is just annoying as hell. I couldn't listen to that droning all day. And driving on the highway with that thing buzzing away, it would drive me mad if I had to use it for A-B transportation daily.

Scion tC... isn't the Civic coming out with new models next year/ it's those stupid people that buy SE models thinking they get the best deals, but your getting much more with the tC.. comon' Toyota Camry engine.. it'll last longer than your Honda wil..

The Scion TC is not a daily driver? It seems like a daily driver to me. The gas mileage keeps going up as well, after almost a year its up to 29 mpg in the city on 87 octane. I also own a 2004 Honda Civic EX which gets around the same mpg in the city as my Scion TC.

I was able to get the Honda Civic EX for less than my Scion TC considering my Civic is automatic. Both were 16k.

The special edition is ugly. The wheels on the standard EX look much better and the EX doesnt have that ugly wing.

TC looks way better than the civic. The stock rims from the TC are nice, and the stock mp3 player. Only advantage of the civic is the mpg. Its rated at 38mpg, pretty dam good.

The Civic EX engine might be buzzier, but the Scion TCs engine gets really loud when it approaches 3000 rpms, just not a buzzy loud. My Scion TC 5 speed reaches 3000 rpm at 65mph so highway driving is louder than my Honda Civic EX which is well under 3000rpm at 65 mph

Not a fan of FWD 'sporty' coupes, but the Scion TC is definitely one I'd consider if I was in the market for a 4-banger.

Scion tC of course! I just got mine last week and I love it!! I still have about a little over a quarter tank of gas and I've driven 260 miles so far. Of course, I started driving only on Friday. Take a look at my car if you want to.

Scion tC

Definitely tC.
2.4L I-4 >> 1.7L I-4
With ppl saying 28mpg city on that bad boy, its the way to go.

I'd actually consider getting one myself to replace my old '93 Concorde boat, but I like the utility of a larger sedan. Decisions decisions

i would (gasp) drive both and see which one i liked. i generally prefer the way hondas drive but i've never driven a scion and i love its roof (the 160 HP camry engine wouldn't hurt either). either one will probably last forever.

Anyone who has owned a Scion for a while care to comment on interior quality?
My gf got an '01 Saturn L200 which has done well overall, handles great, decent accel for a 2.2L I-4, great mileage; but the damn thing squeaks like a sonbitch all the time. The seals, dome light fixture, seats, center console: all rubbin' & squeakin' on eachother 'cuz the interior is so damn cheap. That would be a concern for this car IMO, but I've heard Honda's have good interior quality for the price. Thoughts?

Test drive the cars and pick the one you like best.

Personally I would go for the Hyundai Tiburon GT/SE because I like the style, power, and warranty. I also like the tC style over that of Civic.

Tiburon - bumper to bumper 5 years/60000 miles, powertrain 10 years/100,000 miles, roadside assistant 5 years/unlimited.

tC - bumper to bumper 3 years/36000 miles, powertrain 5 years/60000 miles.

Civic - bumper to bumper 3 years/36000 mi., powertrain 3 years/36000 miles.

Neither of either.

Your too young to even consider buying a new car.

If you decide Honda, find a used Civic or Prelude.

If you decide Toyota, find a used Celica or something.

Nobody around here listens to reason, going out and buying a brand frickin' new car, for their first car no less. Maybe next you should invest in EA stock

Civic hands down

Slower, smaller, less features, crappy 15" wheels, buzzy/peaky engine, rear drum brakes, more expensive? The tC is basically a European market Toyota Avensis made into a 3-door hatchback for the American market.

Yeah, hands down alright:roll:

Why noone mentioned the fuel economy? Bigger enginer = faster, BUT eat more gas. The civic yield 10mpg more than tC. Performance wise, tC hand down. For economic value (gas and resale value), i go with the Civic

The interior in my Scion is really nice. It's not even a week old so I can't really tell about deterioration. My tC feels heavy and really stable. When the door closes, it feels like a tank. I fell safe in my tC. No squeaky sounds in my tC.

Personally the main reason I didn't consider a Tiburon is because their engine offerings aren't what I'm looking for.
The 2.0L makes 140hp, which isn't bad for the displacement, but 160 sounds much better and if EPA only rates it for 24 that doesn't quite blow my skirt up.
The V6 option is nice, but at 19mpg w/5-speed and a $20K+ sticker, I don't think so :p

This is of course a valid point. But when my car gets 16-20mpg, 24-28 city sounds good to me! :p

Warranty? Hondas and Toyotas don't need any warranties. They'll typically last 300,000 miles if you take care of it.

Hyundai ties Honda in quality survey -- J.D. Power
"Toyota Motor Corp. also makes Lexus and Scion vehicles -- actually did slightly worse than Hyundai. Toyota cars had 104 problems per 100 vehicles."

I'm not sure of the true cost of a Tiburon, but a GT V6 5 speed manual with standard package can be had for $18,000 list price. And, there is also a $1,000 Rebate that is effective from May 3 through May 31, 2005.

As much as Hyundai has turned things around in recent time, IQ does not equal long-term durability
