I actually consulted with a military officer on this and I am fine. I am legally crazy due to my bi-polar disorder so they wouldn't even allow me into the service, combat or otherwise.

I haven't read all the responses in this thread, but here is my answer.
I think that it is every persons responsiblity to fight for our country. I get sick of hearing people complain about taxes, about the war, or other sh!t going on in our country. I say if you don't like it here then get the hell out. I know that we have our problems, but lets be honest, there is no better place in the world to live than the good old US of A.
I would be honored to go fight for my country and die if necessary. I have three kids and a wife, and I would be very sad to leave them behind, but if that is what must be done, then that is what I would do. I would have already gone, but how do I explain that to my wife and kids, if I were drafted it wouldn't be up to me anymore. Sort of a cop out, I know, but anyone with a family should know what I am talking about.
I wish that people would stop complaining about the war, and just start supporting our troops, doesn't mean you have to like what is going on, but we are suppose to be united, aren't we? How do you think those guys over there, a lot of them, I am sure, were just hoping to get into the reserves and then get college paid for, feel when they see a bunch of people back here complaining about us being over there?

I would go. I for one support what we did in Iraq, but I do feel that we should soon give the government back to the Iraqi people (but the question is... who?). I doubt we will need to impose the draft, but if I did get drafted, I would go serve my country just like everyone else should.

if saddam had WMD he would have used them on the army that was about to take over his country.
there are no circumstances more dire than that and if even under those circumstances he would not use his WMD, then he and his WMD are were not a threat. that is prima facie evidence that he was not YET a threat and the US was prematurely pre empting.
i can understand if you think that he would have eventually finished production of WMD but your full of sh*t on the "sending them to a neighboring country / destroyed most likely."
the result of UN weapons inspectors and US weapons inspectors looking underneath every rock for any SIGN of it has come up with nothing. its delusional to continue maintaing that 'most likely' there were WMD when theres still no evidence.
I understand stabbing yourself is way more risky than getting drafted. Perhaps it was an extreme example.
I was directing my post towards those who said they would go to ANY war, right or wrong, because their country told them to. My real point was to see if these same people would potentially take their own lives just because the government told them to.

I would go sign up at the recruiter for a branch other than the one they wanted to draft me for, since it would most likely be the Army.
If I had no choice but to go into the Army, I would work my ass off to get into the Rangers or the equivalent. The average grunts would be the surly ones that got drafted and didn't want to be there, I'd rather put my life in the hands of the ones who worked their ass off to get to where they are.

Sadam knew that if he used them against the US, the US would have retaliated in kind... which would have meant complete destruction of him and his country. Sadam, HAS used WMDs before. So to act as if he's never had them is denying reality. The difference is, he used them against people and countries that could not retaliate in a way that could instantly destroy him.
The fact that Sadam never left the country is proof that until the last minute, he refused to believe the US would invade his country, much less occupy it. He spent the six months stonewalling us and hiding the weapons, and never believing the US would do a full invasion. And why should he have thought so? He had half of Europe and the UN leadership in his pocket with massive oil-for-food kickbacks. Not to mention Germany and France were his chief arms suppliers.
No, Sadam thought he could stonewall, hide the weapons, and allow the UN inspectors back in to find nothing... and come out of it smelling like a rose.

That's a huge misconception that a college education will get you in as an officer. They need brains on the fronlines too y'know.
Anyway, if it was a war worth going to, I'd already be fighting. If it was one of these Haliburton/Carlyle promos forget it.
Shoot, that would be me, twice over. However, I've already served, and am about to turn 35.
If asked, I'd go again, although I'd hate to leave my wife and child (soon to be children).

Well, if things were so drastic that they started drafting grandmothers (I'm one), I'd do my duty and go. Hope they let me bring my knitting to the front.
