Apparently P&N is bleeding over into OT. Guess it's about time to up the voltage on the fence.

Yea. I'll fight a country that is in now way infringing on my freedoms, for my freedom.

We don't take draft dodgers anymore. Apparently Canada/US signed some agreement to make sure those trying to skip out on any future draft will stay out. How they will enforce it is anybody's guess.

Fly to France. Live with relatives. Or maybe claim that I have both flat feet and religious differences.

Thats one of the responsibilities I share with my countrymen in order to have the priviledge to live as a US citizen.

Would I like it? NO. Does that matter? NO. Its my responsibility as a US citizen to come to the aid of my country in times of war.

Problem is that you don't have to be a US Citizen to be drafted. :p

As for the topic...yes I would go. Isn't it a criminal offence punishable by jail if you don't go anyway? Hmmm...Jail or the Army. One option requires getting shot and stabbed multiple times, the other is joining the army.

I'd go down to D.C., stand infront of the White House and off myself w/ a 9mm right there. Rather die by my own hands than fight in a war that i dont support.

Why do I suspect that wouldn't be a problem.

I would dodge....In all honesty...i don't feel i would be able to contribute on the field...now i if they draft me and put me behind a computer...that may be a different story, but i'm not sure that's really what they're drafting for....(if i'm wrong, thank goodness)....but if i'm right...i feel i can contribute more to freedom and the democratic world by staying right here, paying my taxes...and giving the occassional donation and prayer to the troops...

Again, the OP never said anything about this being related to the Iraq war. It's just a general question. But if there ever is a draft, I'll look for the suicide headline in every major newspaper.

Exactly.
Why shoot the enemy when you can shoot a conveniently placed barrel of gasoline nearby that explodes, knocking him to the ground and leaving him unconscious but unharmed.

Didn't you just love the 80's tv primetime version of violence?

I'd do nothing because I'm not eligible for enlistment (knee condition).

real fvcking patriotic bunch we have here... :disgust:

Why is it unpatriotic to not want to die for something you don't believe in? I'm sure (and you all correct me if I am wrong) we'd all feel differently if there was an attack on our soil. 9/11 was about Osama and afghanistan - and I was all for that - and would not have minded being drafted for that. With what I know about the current one, no way. . . (not to mention I'm too old anyhow. . .)

After all this you STILL think 9/11 was only about Osama?

No, but I don't think Saddam was a threat either. Where are the weapons of mass destruction, hmmm?

Saddam was a threat even without WMDs. His funding for terrorist activities would have been enough. Your arguement stating there are no WMDs is just as solid as mine saying there are. To be honest even if some are found everyone will just say we planted them there so this arguement will go nowhere.

Your argument is equally as bland. . .

North Korea is a threat (should we invade them now)?
Syria (by your definition) is a threat. . .
Iran (by your definition) is a threat. . .
Saudi Arabia (by your definition) is a threat. . .
Some of the former Soviet Republic is a threat. . .
Pakistan may be a threat . . .

You have to go to training before the war right? What happens if you fail physical training on purpose? Do you do a non physical job in the military?
