If you have an iPhone 4S are you getting the iPhone 5?

I'm currently looking at replacing my iphone 4 with a android phone. I'm waiting to see what google will release in November (and my contract is up at the end of this month). Baring any new nexus releases, I'll be getting a S3.

I like my iphone. The 3G was my first smart phone, I've owned a 3GS, and a 4. Honestly, I'm just not in sync with the direction apple is taking in any of their products. I own 5 apple computers (2 1 year old macbook pros, a 3 year old mbp, and 2 mac minis) and I also will not be buying any new mac computers when these are ready for an upgrade.

I'm ready for an upgrade. I've got the 4G. I can get a 4GS for $99 or the 5 for $199. Might just as well go with the 5 then.

I currently have an iPhone 4S and I'm not in my upgrade window. My normal compulsion is to upgrade right way, but I'm on the fence with the iPhone5.

I placed a preorder with Verizon at full price but now I'm wondering if I'd be better off keeping my $650 and just upgrading to iOS6.

So has anyone here had the same internal debate and what did you decide to do?

Find a charity to give your $650 to if it's burning a hole in your pocket, or better yet, give to me!

I was going to upgrade to the Iphone5 from my 3 year old 3Gs because it's about to die any day now, but I realized that I do most of my smartphone usage on my iPad3 these days, so I opted to pay $99 for the 4S. Unless you just want the absolute latest toys to show off to the world, I don't really think there's anything spectacular about the iPhone 5 got over the 4S.

Had thought about it and had $ set aside but decided there wasn't enough value to justify the cost.

I am not ready for iphone 5 until next yeat when iphone 5s or 6 comes out. my iphone 4s is fine for me

Reporting in after 3 days on the iPhone 5, coming from the 4S:

1. It's taller, and I'm getting hand cramps from using it. I'm not kidding. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but ow! lol.

2. The storage is the same speed. Fortunately (?) they didn't change the camera megapixels, so it's not any slower than saving edited images than the 4S, but it's not any faster either.

3. CPU is faster. Editing pictures flies now. But again it goes back to the storage speed...adding layers in PhotoFX still takes awhile, then I can edit fast, then add a new layer, then wait for a save, rinse, repeat.

4. Battery life is the same. No complaints. I would have thought that (1) the lighter weight, (2) the larger screen, and (3) the 4G would cause the battery life to decrease more, but nope - works great! Also seems to charge pretty fast.

5. I do like the new dock connector. It does not feel breakable, you can stick it in either side, and there's no push-clamp to have to undo to pop it off. Would have been a little nicer if it were magnetic and had a squeeze-LED to let you see in the dark, but whatever 😉

6. LTE blows in my area (Hartford on Verizon). I get 1-2 bars most of the time, and it's slow and drops. I get the "o" thing a lot (no data signal). When it flips back to 3G, my bars typically go up to 4-5 bars. I'm experimenting with turning it off today (Settings > General > Cellular > Enable LTE > Off) to see how it goes. I'm already getting double the amount of bars on 3G just sitting here.

7. I don't notice the black bars on the top & bottom of apps that haven't been converted to the new taller screen format yet. Not a problem for me at all.

8. I'm having camera issues, which appear to be common on all the new phones (purple flare, among other things).

Overall, a lame upgrade for me. It doesn't save photos any faster, the camera seems like more of a downgrade than an upgrade, and 4G in my area is poor. I am considering downgrading to the 4S. I think it all depends on how you use it. I primarily use my iPhone as a camera, so I'm not super psyched about my upgrade to the 5 right now.

OMF what a waste of money. Really you are thinking about this?

I'm going to wait till jailbreak comes first. My contract ended a long time ago and i still don't have data with ATT! I played around with it, its definitely faster. Like going from 4 to 4S faster at least, can finally catch up to Samsung S3/HTC One. Screen is huge disappointment (pun?). Its just taller, not wider, so its really not bigger. All apps are same size until they start to update it. I played with an S3 and the size is awesome 4.8 maybe a bit too big, i think they should've done 4.5 inches. Plus the new connector pisses me off. WT BS is lighting? Its not even usb3.0. It takes a long time to sync with 2.0, which is why i only do it like once every 3-4 months.

I wonder where they have to go with the next iphone. The processor is fast enough, will they do quad core in the 5S? Maybe faster flash? Very little hope for a bigger screen. I guess they'll leave that to the ipad mini.

Same here, but my wife has a 4. To her, the phone is perfectly fine for her needs. She doesn't have upgraditis like I do. 😛

I dunno, 4 to 4S is a pretty big jump. 4S to 5 is just a speedbump upgrade. A little bigger, a little faster, plus some quality control problems 😉 Going from a 4 to 5 a would be awesome though!

The speed difference between the 4 and the 5 is crazy. If she uses her iPhone like my wife does, she will definitely notice and appreciate the difference. There's no doubt about it.

Honestly, LTE is probably the number one reason why I upgraded from my 4S, and I can say that it does not disappoint. It's so nice to almost feel like I'm at home on my WiFi connection with how fast things load up. I can even use Splashtop Remote Desktop with poor signal (2 bars of LTE) and it's pretty smooth. It just makes my inner-nerd go wild every time I load a page and it's just there. :$

I am. I figer it's the last time I can upgrade and keep my unlimited so I may as well. I don't have LTE yet but it's coming at some point early next supposedly so I'll be ready to go when it does fire up. Really the biggest reason is space. 16GB just isn't enough for me so I'm getting a 32GB this time. Going to the trouble of selling and then buying a 32GB 4S just doesn't make sense but I have to have some more room.
