If you have an iPhone 4S are you getting the iPhone 5?

I currently have an iPhone 4S and I'm not in my upgrade window. My normal compulsion is to upgrade right way, but I'm on the fence with the iPhone5.

I placed a preorder with Verizon at full price but now I'm wondering if I'd be better off keeping my $650 and just upgrading to iOS6.

So has anyone here had the same internal debate and what did you decide to do?

I'm going to upgrade. Thinner, lighter, wider screen, and double processor power is a big upgrade compared to previous iterations. This will be the first non-subsidized iphone upgrade for me.

No way in hell. The 4S works perfectly fine. I might not even get the 5S when my upgrade is due, I'll probably just flip it on ebay.

Is a wider screen and slightly lighter weight worth $650 to you?

I would say LTE is worth the upgrade alone. Everything else is just icing on the cake.

I decided to upgrade, primarily for the camera. It's mostly the same as the 4S, but supposed to be slightly better thanks to software enhancements. I also wanted the faster processor for doing photos/videos, as well as the 64GB model since I shoot a lot of video on my iPhone. I've shot roughly 20,000 photos with my 4S, so even a little bit of a better camera is enough to hook me :awe:

I was fortunate because I had a family member with an upgrade available, so I bought my iPhone 5 at normal price and I'm giving them my old 4S in exchange.

Thanks for the input everyone. Basically I feel like I'm upgrading for the 4G LTE and I'm debating if that's worth $650.

The camera is pretty much as good, but I'm a pretty avid photographer and use my dSLR most of the time. I don't shoot video at all.

The size and weight aren't really critical for me. I'm the type of person who would not get it on release day then see someone else with it and be like "man, I really need that new iPhone".

I'm holding out for the 5S personally. I don't see any reason to get caught up in the upgrade insanity when the 4S is perfectly capable.

People on the 4S cycle are in a good spot not to upgrade (if LTE isn't a must have). In my area it's so spotty that it's still not a plus a year into my contract. Come summer/fall of 2013 there will be a bevy of flagship devices competing for our dollars, even Windows phones if they don't flop this year.

Honestly it's not a very exciting upgrade. I happened to have a family member who had an available upgrade and wanted my 4S, so it was win/win in the cost-savings department for both of us. I am interested to check out the new autofocus in video since I have a speedy 1-year-old at home

It really feels like more of a 4S+ upgrade rather than 5. Yeah, it's got 4G LTE, but supposedly the 3G is already at fairly close to 4G speeds. Yeah, it's a bit taller, but eh. Not much difference in the camera department aside from software upgrades. Still a USB 2.0 connection. Still no 128gb option.

Although I don't really know what else they would add. I wouldn't really want much of a wider screen. NFC maybe. USB 3.0 connection for faster photo/video downloads, although I'm sure I'm in the minority of "heavy iPhone camera users" haha. 802.11ac would be cool. I sort of wish they had gone with a 12-megapixel camera, but that's probably being saved for the 5S.

If I were on AT&T and could pay $450 to upgrade from a 4S, I'd do it. Should be able to flip an unlocked 4S for about $400.

On Verizon, having to pay the full upgrade price of $650? I don't think so.

But yeah, it's basically a 4GS. I didn't expect anything else, really. I think they'll had USB3 in the next revision. The main thing with a larger MP camera is that it would have taken up too much space. Presumably, the 5S will look identical (or really close enough) to the 5, and unless they can shrink a larger MP camera in to the same space, I'd expect a 8MP camera in the next version too.

Just talked to one of my bosses, she is OK with me upgrading if I outright buy one, but I have to convince my "real" boss to let me do it.

Stupid nano-sim. If it weren't for that I could just change the freaking phone and be over with it.

I am very concerned about how it will work with my Appradio 2. I can't wait until someone tests it out.

Don't see much point right now. 4S does all I need it to do plenty fast. I'm sure that'll change by the time I'm in the last year of my contract. By them the iPhone 7 will be out and it will be leaps and bounds faster than anything right now.

why would any company put 128GBs in a phone that's just ridiculous

Why would any company have a cell phone with an 8-megapixel camera and 1080p HD camcorder? 😛

HD runs about 2.5 gigs for every 10 minutes of footage from what I've read. So even if you get the highest capacity (I think with formatting it's 57 gigs), that's just shy of 4 hours of footage. Doubling that with a 128gb iPhone would be nice!

F-Verizon, there is no way in hell I'm paying $649 for a phone. I'm waiting until my contract expires and go my own way.

I know a lot of people that carry around their entire music collection with them....why, I have no idea. These same people have zillions of apps as well. I tried to fix something on one of theirs and couldn't find the settings app....had to search for it.

I won't be upgrading. My contract with AT&T still has 1 more year left, so hopefully the 5S will roll out right around the time my contract is up.

I will, however be replacing the battery; I've had abysmal battery life since day 1 with the 4S. I blame that firmware bug that was present at launch.

I'm upgrading from my 4S. I traded it into Amazon for a $500 gift card and I switched to Verizon. Once I get my new phone, I can trade in my old 3GS since it won't be very useful to me. Although, it's more scratched up, so I'm not sure if I'll trade it into Amazon as their lower price points for trade-ins are significantly lower.

USB 3.0 connection for faster photo/video downloads

Why do people wanting USB 3 for transfers when the NAND in the phone can't even saturate USB 2? A review talked about transfer speeds and I did the math. The phone only transferred at around 22MB/s. USB 2 is 480Mbps, which is a theoretical 60MB/s. USB 3's specs higher wattage is probably the only real benefit.

802.11ac would be cool.

Are there even any chips available for this? While ac would be nice, there aren't many routers available, and it would probably be more of a battery hog. I would say give it a year or two, and it will be in the iPhone. I bet you'll eventually see NFC as well as long as the spread of it continues to grow. Apple isn't going to sacrifice an aspect of their phone (size, power use, etc.) on a technology that isn't that widespread.

I've had a 4S since its launch date and not going to pony up the absurd money to Verizon for one, nor do I want to really "upgrade" through them and lose my old unlimited data plan.

The iOS update gives me most of the features and the screen difference isn't big enough for me to really care, also my phone is already a little too slim and sleek for me lol.

Only thing I really care about that I'm missing is the LTE but like most said it isn't EVERYWHERE around me yet so not a big loss and 95% the time I have wifi available if I'm in need.

Maybe I'll get the next one just depends how things go, til then I've kept my phone mint so it's basically brand new still anyhow.

If I had a 4 I'd be all over it though, my wife still has a 4 but she doesn't want the new one anyway.

Woah woah woah why is everyone saying 650$ to upgrade? If you have an upgrade available, then itll pretty much cost you the activation fee and the phone price, so say I get a 32 gb it would be about 320$ on a verizon contract.

A 4S user most likely does not have an upgrade available.

what do we need LTE for? us 4S owners have had "4G" for months now!
