Open up consumer reports and take a look at Maxima. It's the most reliable car in there, bar none. Also Maxima has more front interior space than any sedan, including Lexus LS430, Lincoln Towncar, Merc S430, etc. It has engine that has been wards 10 best ever since it came out 8 years ago. And Maximas are selling cheap now since Altima came out. Look it up on carsdirect.com.
JD power counts the number of defects, so a blown tranny counts as much as a broken cupholder. Also, Ford and GM build more trucks, which have fewer problems due to rugged and simple construction.
That helps them in the overall survey, but has nothing to do with comparing the quality of these 2 cars.

I didn't read the back and forth in the thread, I'm saying Maxima in a heart beat. The new mustangs are chick cars and I don't like how they look. My dad had one of the older ones when I was in high school. it was a gt 5.0. It hauled ass, yes, and now I'd be a better driver in it. In HS, I hydroplaned, spun once or twice and and hit a fire hydrant. I have a bad relationship with mustangs :)

Let's see, the only car listed that is rear wheel drive is the Mustang, so that's which one I'd pick.

I drive a Maxima, and I love it. If you're a big guy, you're going to really appreciate the extra room up front. It has more than enough power for regular street and freeway driving. The only complaint I have is that that Maxima breaks typically suck.

In your price range there are better choices.

I'm going to go with that answer too, sorry.
I like mustangs, but for 30k, you could get... uh.. something else.

This whole resale thing is retarted. Looking at a base model mustang for resale value doesn't mean crap about a Mach 1. There are probely 30 base v6 girly stangs sold for every Mach 1. Hell the 89-93 5.0l stangs in good shape still go for $6k a lot of the time and they are everywhere. A Mach 1 is going to hold its value very well just like the Cobras do.

Also saying a v8 stang is junk because the Focus or other FWD cars have problem is also stupid. Look at their other RWD v8 cars like the Crown Vic or atleast other stangs if you want to see how well the 4.6l holds up. Its a very reliable drivetrain.

i've never been a big fan of the mustangs, except for maybe the saleen's. there's a ford dealer nearby that packs their showroom with nothing else besides saleen mustangs and souped up pick-ups. have you ever seen the interior of a stock mustang? absoultely hideous, imho. :) definitely maxima. but then again, i'm biased because i own a '99 maxima SE. or is it that i genuinely like the maxima, and that's why i own one?

the maxima has one of the smoothest and sweetest revving engines. i think ward's put it aptly, when they said it's the sweetest revving engine this side of a ferrari. heh heh, i guess bought into the marketing hype. :D

Maxima, because it's a Nissan. Mustangs may be RWD, and slightly more powerful (they up to 230hp yet?:D), but outdated and common as hell, especially among teenage girls.

I'm 27 with two young daughters and a pretty wife.

I'm going Maxima... my wild oats have been sown and reaped already.... talk to me again in twenty years... I may have changed my tune.

It has 305hp and 320ft-lbs of torque so yeah its a little above 230hp. What is outdated about the Mach 1? It has a solid rear axle to keep cost down but has a dohc 32 valve v8. I wouldn't exactly call that out dated.

I wonder how many of the Maxima people even bothered to click on the links at the begining of the thread to see what they are picking between. This isn't some girly v6 stang or even the GT.

Maxima.

Why?

Cause its practical, gives similar feeling when at WOT, can be made fast easily, runs low 14s stock, can seat 5 people comfortable, cheaper insurance. And finally, its fast enough for me.

However, if I was given a choice of a second car..I wouldn't mind taking an older Mustang or Firebird and fixing it up. drooool...black firebird....KITT....

i never quite understood why this is, but i completely agree. there are some nice looking domestic cars (corvette for example) with disappointing interiors. for pete's sake (who's pete, anyways?), you're looking from within the car 99.999% of the time, rather than staring at the outside of the car! :D
