I wouldn't spend it on a gun, I'd spend it on my house.

If I HAD to spend it on gun it would be a fine Beretta O/U shotgun.

I'm not a big fan of shotguns.

....oh yeah.. I was kinda worried about the 5.7x28 ammo and having a solid source, but Cabela's currently carries it for an OK price (250rnds for $120)

I've pretty much decided that if you need to ask ATOT for advice for buying ANYTHING, you're probably better off just putting the money in a savings account and waiting until you KNOW what you want.

That said, you really need a pistol that isn't quite so wimpy in your collection. If that 2 grand is burning a hole in your pocket, I'd get a Sig P220 in .45 caliber. Spend the some of the remaining money on ammo and a cleaning kit, and bank the rest.

I'm not really interested in the long-range or hunting stuff either. Just mid-range plinking.

I still haven't decided pistol or rifle. I like rifles because I'm a better shot with a long gun....but it's probably just practice.

I have thought about a .45 pistol as well...

I've just been enamored with the P90 since Stargate. :$

I live in upstate New York, and I know I don't need a permit to buy a rifle here.

However, do I need a NY state driver's license? I'm still using my Texas DL and have no burning desire to deal with changing it any time soon.

Anyone familiar with this process want to weigh in? (I'm thinking about buying a Garand (if I'm feeling spendy) or a Mosin-Nagant (if I'm not), just for recreational shooting).

Most likely you need proof of residency but not that state. It not like it is for handguns. I don't know though, NY is "funny". I'd just call the local gun shop.

Yeah, I figured since the gun would have to be shipped to a local gun shop I'd ask them what all I needed to do.

Maybe. I bought a rifle at Gander a couple weeks ago (I'm in upstate NY) and they took my NY license to write down the number and get my info but I don't think it was a requirement that it be a NY license.

I was going to say no to a PS90 due to if nothing else, ammo cost, but the 5.7mm isn't horrible. I was going to suggest some type of .308 but it looks like ammo is about the same price as 5.7mm. Heck if the PS90 really turns you on, get it, but it'd be quite a ways down my list of firearms. I'd probably get some type of old school military rifle, hopefully chambered in .308 or something, or just an M1A.

Why don't they have the regular 50 round mags for the PS90? Unless you live in a scumbum state like NY that is limited to 10 rounds, I didn't think there were restrictions on them for the most part.

collectors grade garand. thats what i am going to get next. i have a mosin, sks, xdm40, lee enfield, and keltec 380 auto for carry. want a saiga 12 gauge shotgun, an ak74, ar-15 and a garand to round it out some. i do so love the russian guns :)
