Had a telemarketer do the same a while back. I laughed and told him his name wasn't Fred. He insisted it was and I kept calling him on it/laughing until he hung up.😀

2) Elsewise, these CSR's are instructed to assume an easily digested White Man Name.

Did you bother to read the subsequent posts? Requiring the White Man Name as you call it is racism. How would you justify (as previously mentioned) Apple requiring Anand to change to Jimmy? I'll tell you what I did not do and that is give this guy a tough time, but yes I did hang up and while the name thing does annoy, I would have done it in the same length if he was from the John Birch Society, an you should know by now I would. Dell or whoever should bear the brunt of criticism for that, but then I knew that already.

Now if anyone who is from Indian extraction is offended by this thread they can PM me and I will apologize to them for wording things as I have and that is frankly more than I've seen others do, specious accusations notwithstanding. As far as intent, I know what I meant and I won't lie and plead guilty to racism when none was meant.

We've had it for about 25 years and will probably last forever.

The joke may have been in poor taste, but you need to say one way or the other if you believe I was being racist. I've already said I would give a personal apology if I gave the impression to those who are affected by this issue.

Well you have and that's fair enough. I have appreciated the support you've shown me especially with my health issues, and it's been a good run. I want to thank those who I've interacted with over the years, and that of the other administrators, moderators, and members. I'll post my email so those who wish to keep in contact may do so. I'm not angry in the least and I'm not going to blame you or anyone else, but my presence on this world is tenuous and I have been considering moving on anyway.

No one should hold Perk responsible, as this is my choice. He has personally contacted me to check on my health and I will not say a word against him, but all good things must come to an end, and I want it known he nor anyone else has pressured me into this decision. I might look in occasionally, but I think I have outlasted my stay.

I wish the new owners, the staff and the members all the best in the world.

Firstly, how the F do you know that they are Indian?
Secondly, its not of their choosing, the American company that hired then (directly/indirectly) wants some friendly names that they can pronounce or say easily, not because they want to disguise.
Thirdly, only cheap people who do business with cheap companies get calls from Indian call centers, or maybe you are Indian or doing business directly with Indian companies, mainly financial organization. So its your fault in the first place that you are getting calls from India. Myself, or anyone I know never get calls from Indian call center.

What if his employer insisted he call himself Fred or he would get fired? What if his employer has a rule that he is not to hang up on a customer and he ends up getting canned? Then he goes and weeps quietly at his desk as he is packing his stuff into a cardboard box to take home with him where his wife and 2 children are waiting.

It was only his 3rd day on the job so he hasn't even had a chance to make 1 paycheck yet but at least he got his severance check right? Which he is planning to take straight to the bank and cash it to then go straight to the pharmacy to buy some medication because one of his kids has been sick lately. He'll also need to remember to pick up that loaf of bread so his wife and he and the other child have something to eat that night.

His tears drip down off of his face and onto that cardboard box containing his stuff now staining the cardboard with little dark tear spots. Inside the cardboard box are just a few things that don't matter much to you, but mean the world to him. A picture of his wife and children smiling taken last holiday. He is so proud of them and what his children could accomplish if he can just work hard enough to provide for them. He'd give his life for them in a heartbeat if it meant they would have a better life.

Now security will escort him out of the building and he notices that it is raining outside. He's glad for that so that if he runs into anyone on the way to the bank he is not ashamed as the rain drops mask the tears on that cardboard box and on his face. He just hopes that the rain doesn't soak through his thin jacket and soak the severance check he has in his jacket pocket. Things will be alright he says to himself. Get it together. Must be strong for the family, and the little one who will be helpless against the illness he suffers from without his medication. I will be strong, and so will my son. I will one day be proud of him after he makes it through this tough time. No one will notice the tears I shed with all this rain soaking my face and the cardboard box. Almost there, my feet ache...Can't wait till this day is over. I hope that man that gave me a hard time on the phone instead of just accepting my nickname and accepting my help has a better life than this. I have no hate toward him he says to himself. Experience, not ignorance. I have worked in greater Atlanta area, greater Boston area and now in TX, I NEVER heard from anyone that they got a call from Indian tele marketer or call center after registering in do not call list. Bigots are ignorant, not me

I've been on the DNC list for many years. The telemarketers I get all sound like they come from a variety of places. I get the a-holes from other countries not caring about the violation, but the American-sounding a-holes advertising American small businesses doing it is just unacceptable.

For instance, Unlimited A-holes calls me. They are a local company. The first time and every time thereafter I've informed them a) we've never done business before, b) they are not a political group, non-profit group or religious group, and c) they are in violation of state and federal DNC statutes.

They all play the dumb (ahem, ignorant) card, but they continue to call. I'm at the point I am about to start recoding the dumb local companies that identify themselves so I can turn them into the Feds.
