Just to chime in, I usually don't care much, and as I consider myself a veteran in this mean world of interweb, it really takes a lot to offend me.
Having said that, HR post did stun me a little bit when I read it. I wasn't personally offended, but my thought was, did he really just post that? What struck me the most was the name issue. I don't think most of you are aware of how people around the world are actually naming their kids nowadays (in the past two decades, really, and maybe even before that). There really is no such thing as 'American' name anymore, as what you may call 'middle class American names' are now extremely common around the world.
Sure, it is very likely that this guy with a heavy Indian accent that just called HR wasn't really a 'Stanley', but the reality is, especially now in 2015, it's really not unbelievable if he was, and it shouldn't be an issue if so. The fact that a lot of you in this thread seem to be really sure that someone from India (with an Indian accent) has to have (what you perceived to be) an 'Indian name' is extremely surprising to me. Do you really not know, or do you not want it to be true (for reasons you probably don't want to admit)?
Anyway, it's always a bummer to see a longtime poster retires from here, and I hope HR will change his mind to just taking some time off and will be back, but I will stand with Perk on this issue.
It is incredibly common to have an "American" first name in the Philippines. If not an English name, then a Spanish name. Usually a mix between and American first name and a Spanish last name.
So I am not sure what your point is about Filipino names.

It is fun messing with those idiots.....Heh, I had one of those calls not three months ago. "Click".

do you really want them to tell you their name is "jadgesh" or "rajinder". r u gonna remember that name if you have to complain to their supervisor?
...don't tell me you name is Stanley. I don't believe you. I'm going to assume you are a telemarketer and hang up.
Ted, Sandra? Come on. Does everyone in India have middle class American name? What if they call the hood? "Hi, I'm Latresha"?
Calling wales? "High, this is Rhys". BS.
Just tell me the name you were frigging born with. If I can't say it then I don't care.

They aren't necessarily fake. I've met a number of Indians now whose christian parents gave them boring english-language names. Legacy of colonization and whatnot.
This. Although Christianity came to India thousands of years before British colonization.

That would mean christianity came to India in some year B.C.![]()
