If there is a such thing as an Abrahamic God, why is he such a tyrant?

If you don't follow his orders, you will burn for eternity...

What's up with that?

Does the Bible, Torah, Kuran, etc. explain why he's so mean?

I keep scrolling up and seeing Off Topic. Hmmm, must be the wrong forum in the banner.

BTW, the New Testament refutes that. Facism is a form of government based on an economic model. Can't find that part about government ownership of businesses anywhere.

Who said you had to follow orders? There are guidelines and yes there are some commands. The actual commands are things that you should have no problem with following. Do not murder, commit adultry, things of a very serious nature.

But it's not that you have to follow orders...if you simply give your best at living by the guidelines set forth then you are fine...perfection is impossible so you aren't expected to live up to something like that.

I really dont see why it makes a difference if there is a god or not. I mean, if suddenly we found out for certaiin thast there was no god, then all the christians would make up some other deal to make sure they live forever. And what about the atheists? If the atheists found out that there was a god, would there behaviour radically change? well, only in the fact that they would start praying i guess, but other than that it would be business as usual. By the way, why are all the chrisitians so obsessed with living forever? for me this life is more than enough. Its our responsibilty to do what we need to do in our lifespan, not to be able to live in some type of paradice for eternity- that philosophy absolve us of all responsibilty and makes us less "human". besides, paradice is an oxymoron-how are we supossed to be inparadice and just forget everything thast went wrong here on earth? thats B.S. I dont wanna forget what happened here like it didnt ever matter and i am some kinda perfectly happy zombie.

Unless you believe the people who wrote the Bible were divinely inspired, the words in it have no meaning. The gospels are incomplete and were written much too late to be accurate. The source of the Bible is an interesting subject to study, although I haven't done too much myself.

For me, believing in God isn't tied to the Bible.

Like I said before ... The word has a few different definitions.

fascict = "Of, advocating, or practicing fascism"

fascism = "Oppressive, dictatorial control."

I like how you people pretend that there is no God thinking because there's isn't any proof of him, he doesn't exist. Proving God's existence or non-existence is impossible but you seem to believe that God doesn't exist either way.
You can'd prove or disprove God's existense. That's why claiming that God doesn't exist is as foolish as isclaiming that he does exist without any proof. My proof is my faith. You don't care about that, please don't trample it anyway.

I gotta agree with the others in this thread: "Fascist" doesn't really accurately describe the God of the Bible. I imagine you probably meant the term to connote something similar to "tyrant," and with that I would agree.

The Bible depicts a schiozophrenic God. On the one hand he is supposedly merciful and loving, and yet on the other hand he is supposedly wrathful and vengeful. How those attributes can consistently describe a being that is additionally described as "the same yesterday, today and forever" is entirely beyond me.

Also, whenever some historian or someone tried to prove the Bible wrong, they found out that it was accurate. It's accurate historically and archaeologically. Gives it more validity. If there was concrete proof, there would be no need for faith and apparently that's just not how it's supposed to be.

Yes they did, and as a form of control of the masses. Men tend not to listen to other men when told what to do but if there is a "God" that punishes you for the wrong behavior then people will follow out of fear, or faith for some. Why do you think in early civilizations it is almost impossible to distinguish between the Church and the State?

Oh I believe the Bible has some truth to it but man has put his fingers in it to many times to hold it as truth. Besides why don?t we have prophets now writing more scripture? At what point did God say ahh they are to far gone?

Okay...would you say that your parents love you? But did they ever punish you when you deserved it. So they can cause you pain even though at the same time they love you. This is pretty much the same thing oversimplified. I'm assuming you have normal, decent parents which unfortunately not everyone has.

When I did something wrong my Dad wouldn't hessitate to get out the belt. Doesn't mean he hated me.

I know what your talking about, and I've read that it is the best tool historians have to study ancient events because of its accuracy.

But when you look away from the whole story and get down to one-phrase commands, it seems most likely that many if not all of these were not written down accurately. If I remember correctly some of the gospels were written hundreds of years after Christ's death. From what little we have to go on in studying ancient events it is hard to prove the Bible accurate or inaccurate in its small details, but in its small details is where Christianity gets some of its core beliefs.
