its called "pragmatism". In thinking a belief to be so, that defines the reality of man . If you believe that god doesnt exist, and you are correct, then you have defined the reality of your existence. You are still stuck in the early rationalism of the 17th century.

I really dont see why it makes a difference if there is a god or not. I mean, if suddenly we found out for certaiin thast there was no god, then all the christians would make up some other deal to make sure they live forever. And what about the atheists? If the atheists found out that there was a god, would there behaviour radically change? well, only in the fact that they would start praying i guess, but other than that it would be business as usual.
By the way, why are all the chrisitians so obsessed with living forever? for me this life is more than enough. Its our responsibilty to do what we need to do in our lifespan, not to be able to live in some type of paradice for eternity- that philosophy absolve us of all responsibilty and makes us less "human". besides, paradice is an oxymoron-how are we supossed to be inparadice and just forget everything thast went wrong here on earth? thats B.S. I dont wanna forget what happened here like it didnt ever matter and i am some kinda perfectly happy zombie.

I don't see a need to pray. If you fornicate with a neighbor, God's in there with you already. No need to tell him about it later. He already knows what you'd say anyway if you were to pray. So there's no need telling God what he already knows all too well.

Paradise - maybe it's similar to the Matrix's first revision, each person could get their own world where everything's perfect.
Or else, when you reach Heaven, you're lobotomized, so that you think that a piece of fruit is the most hilarious thing in existence. Then you drop it on the floor. Suddenly you learn the meaning of euphoric laughter, but then forget it when you slip on the dropped fruit. And then you laugh some more.
I think I like the latter better. It's funny just imagining it.

Okay...would you say that your parents love you? But did they ever punish you when you deserved it. So they can cause you pain even though at the same time they love you. This is pretty much the same thing oversimplified. I'm assuming you have normal, decent parents which unfortunately not everyone has.
Yeah, but your dad didn't condemn you to suffering for eternity. I mean really, we're given a single human lifetime to determine the nature of existence and if there's a God or not, or else we face eternal punishment? A human lifetime vs infinite time - pretty big difference there. Ask an infant what he thinks a good solution to world peace would be. He'll probably just drool on you, and I don't think that human saliva, even copious amounts, will foster peace.

God has all the mathematical proofs in the world yet he does not share. This is why he is fascist.

I gotta agree with the others in this thread: "Fascist" doesn't really accurately describe the God of the Bible. I imagine you probably meant the term to connote something similar to "tyrant," and with that I would agree.

Does the Bible explian why he's so mean?
The Bible depicts a schiozophrenic God. On the one hand he is supposedly merciful and loving, and yet on the other hand he is supposedly wrathful and vengeful. How those attributes can consistently describe a being that is additionally described as "the same yesterday, today and forever" is entirely beyond me.

This anology really bears so little resemblence to our alleged relationship to God that its untenable. My dad wasn't creator of the universe and he didn't have unlimited miraculous powers or exhaustive and infallible foreknowledge. The question really is, if God did not want us to commit certain actions, why did He even create us so that we're capable of doing them? Free will certainly doesn't excuse it, because not only is it inconsistent with His foreknowledge, but one does not need to be able to do ANYTHING in order to have free will. One must only have the freedom to choose among a certain set of possible actions, none of which need to include acts of sin.

God is aware of how each human will turn out before they are born - omniscient.. God has the power to change the future - omnipotence. If God knows what is going to happen, and easily has the power to change it, is that not the same as sending someone to Hell? He's knowingly creating a defective person, and then punishing that person for being defective.

God is neither fascist nor republician...God does not even "exist". The idea of existence is human and temporal. You can't apply human logic and ideals to God.

For me, believing in God isn't tied to the Bible.

Also, whenever some historian or someone tried to prove the Bible wrong, they found out that it was accurate. It's accurate historically and archaeologically. Gives it more validity. If there was concrete proof, there would be no need for faith and apparently that's just not how it's supposed to be.

Oh I believe the Bible has some truth to it but man has put his fingers in it to many times to hold it as truth. Besides why don?t we have prophets now writing more scripture? At what point did God say ahh they are to far gone?

I agree that Men are fallible - we all make mistakes. However, if you read the foreward in a Bible it shows that it is translated (or it should show or you shouldn't use it) from the earliest possible texts into English or whatever. So they translate from Aramaic or Latin or whatever to English. Not through a bunch of other languages first. Sure...I'm sure there are errors...but again we can't be perfect.

This is also why I am not a fan of Religion. Religion was created solely by men, not God. Things get too political and it's just nuts. I'm more of a read your Bible and try to follow the example set type of person rather than say to listen to whatever some preacher says - they are not all right and some are even way way off.

Why are there no more Prophets? I think because all of the prophecy that God wanted to be revealed is in the Bible...and we won't hear from him again until the second coming. There are plenty of devoted people out there that I believe have a...dialogue of a sort with God. But the Bible is a complete work...it says in the Bible that anyone who adds to it or takes away from it is going to be false. That's why there are no other people adding to it (legit anyway).

She only had the power to terrorize Dorothy into giving them to her. The Good witch symbolized God, the wicket witch, Satan, and the shoes, Dorothy's Soul.

Good. The Bible has been corrupted by man. Including the church. It is interesting to note that the true definition of "church" is any group of two or more people discussing God. It has nothing to do with buildings, memeberships, nor money.

Not true. If He were controlling us, we would have no choice. He decided to give us freedom of choice - whether it benefits us or not. He does not simply "make" us do whatever he wants. Sure...He knows what will happen and He CAN change it, but that would be taking away our freedom of choice, something that is a gift.

You're trying to understand something that isn't understandable. This is almost like asking the question "Can God create a rock so heavy that He can't move it?"

As miniMUNCH said, you cannot apply human logic to God...it's just too far beyond human understanding for that to work. Even though we as humans think that we can eventually understand and unlock the secrets of everything.

faith = "a belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence"

I believe you can have faith that God does not exist just as easily as he does ...

The new testament was not officially deemed as such until the council of Carthage (406 if memmory serves me).

According to christian doctrine...the Bible is not the word of God...the Bible even says so...it says Jesus is the logos of God (logos translated word in english although that hardly includes the same meaning).

By extension, the church is the body of christ and, thus, in some portent, the logos of God. Don't confuse this statement with papism...the Pope does not hold ultimate authority over anything or anyone although roman catholics will say differently, of course.

It is not to say that the Bible is not very important...

I gotta agree with the others in this thread: "Fascist" doesn't really accurately describe the God of the Bible. I imagine you probably meant the term to connote something similar to "tyrant," and with that I would agree.

Of ccourse this analogy is bad...you can't really make a good one to compare anything of this earth with God.

Why did He create us with the capability to sin? Ask Him, not me. I'm not the one who did the creating. He simply gave us freedom...not partial freedom, but total freedom to do what we desired. I do not understand His plan...nobody truly does, so yes there are a lot of questions that cannot be answered fully or to a capacity to which would satisfy some.
