Soda(pop/coke/soft drink) is cheaper and tastes better.

because a lot of people dont think it tastes better??
Soda to me is waaay to sweet- I love the taste of beer- which is why a lot of times I drink only ONE beer w/ my meal...I dont get any alchol effect, I just like how it tastes.
(good beer that is...I'm not drinking a single budwiser =)

Stoners.
I was raised Southern Baptist. If I touch alcohol, Satan will burst forth from the bowels of Hell and rain destruction on humanity.

The church has historically been very forgiving of booze

We had non-alcoholic beer in Iraq and I don't think I've ever been more mad at a drink in my life...

Because beer is an acquired taste. Yes, if everyone grew up with 2 choices to begin with, I would bet that beer would slowly die off to something less popular. But since ltos of people have already grown into liking beer, it's hard to throw competition at such a product with such a huge consumption.

How about this.

What if beer had zero alcoholic effect and soda did. Then is there even a reason to START drinking beer if say all of us have never drank beer?

Whoa, beer has been around for thousands of years and not primarily because of its alchohol content.

Although, the alchohol does aid in preserving the beer. People's tastes change over time which is why certain spice/herb palates are no longer popular. Within the major changes, tastes cycle in approximately thirty year periods.

Sugar seems to be an intrinsic 'like' of humanity but, the taste for beer is not far behind.

I love beer. I don't drink it for its effects. If I wanted to drink something just for the hell of getting buzzed or drunk, then I would just pour some liquor in some diet coke or root beer.

My beverage of choice is always dictated by taste, except for water which is just very functional. I don't like things that taste watered down like a lot of light / "lite" beers nor do I like flat and weak tasting beer or wine. And I never drink someone with alcohol simply because of its alcohol content, it's always for the whole flavor.
