I remember that thread when we talked about things that smell good but taste like crap. Then people started talking about beer, and some people reasoned that we drink it only because of the alcoholic effect. But then there's people who always say that they love beer.
I still somehow believe that if you took away the alcoholic effect of beer, we wouldn't be drinking crap worth of beer. I know that beer is an acquired taste, just like coffee. But do I drink coffee because I like it? It's decent, not great, and I drink it only when I load up the cream and sugar. Why do I drink it? I need to stay awake in class. Frappuccinos are great too, but come on. They're loaded with cream, you're more of drinking the fat and sugar and what not and not so much the coffee. So if a drink like a frap that barely has caffeine can be so popular, I reason that the coffee only stays alive because of the caffeine, just like beer stays alive because of the alcohol.
Now how about this. If SODA like Coke or Pepsi or whatever had the same alcoholic effect, WHICH would you pick?
I would pick up soda ANY DAY over beer if they could both get me drunk at the same rate.
