We went to visit family in a different part of the country (funeral) recently. I normally drink only beer brewed within a few kilometres of my house, with the occasional import thrown in for variety.

I had a Miller Genuine Draft. If I wasn't visiting, the last half would have gone into the sink.

I can only think that either:

this is the reason many people think they don't like beer

OR

this is beer for people who don't like beer

Either way. Beer. Pop is for kids, beer is for grown-ups. There are plenty of options for kids who want to get drunk on pop, the perpetuation of teen pregnancy depends on it.

That affects the taste though. I like the taste of beer, but I like the taste of soda more. I don't like soda with alcohol in it. So if I can assume that the OP is saying the hypothetical soda he's talking about has alcohol but still tastes like soda, then soda it is for me.

I would certainly drink beer.
I consider the effects of alcohol to be a bad thing in general.

If "soft" drinks had alcohol in them, then there's no point in drinking them for me, as beer is MUCH tastier.

i drink beer for the taste... i'd actually prefer not to get drunk... however i do also love soda, but for different things.. something like pizza or nachos goes great with beer, but nothing beats a cherry coke with a sandwich..

Neither. Beer and soda are both unhealthy.

Fightin' words those.

Soda - no health benefit.

Beer - proven health benefits for moderate drinkers, serious health risks for heavy drinkers. Certainly not a good idea as a meal replacement, but as a way to wind down after work, 1-3 beers is fine as long as you burn the calories somehow. As with all things, YMMV.

There are tons of different beers out there for you to try and you just need to find one. Everyone I know now likes beer at least a little, mainly because of me forcing them to try different ones. They may not love beer, but I've been able to find at least one beer for everyone I know who didn't used to like beer at all - and I'm convinced I could do the same for anybody

I "KNOW" I don't like beer. It is nasty. I have tried about 30+ different varieties. About the only one that I can stand (barely) is Sam Adam's, but I wouldn't choose to drink it.

I wouldn't drink alcoholic soda either, what is the point? If I want alcohol I drink bourbon or whiskey, straight or on the rocks (or in coke if it is not that good).

Why would anyone NOT drink soda if it had the same effect as beer?

Soda(pop/coke/soft drink) is cheaper and tastes better.
