Oh Christ. Explain please.

Simple. She would sensationalize everything and put a spin on it making America gladly embrace thermonuclear destruction with open arms.
like i said, it won't happen, because men won't vote for a woman, especially a black woman.

agreed. one step at a time will be the only way to tell if the world will accept a black president or a woman president. it'll be hard for the world to take both at the same time. it would be incredible if it happened though.

Not only that, could she make life-threatening decisions at a moments notice. I couldn't picture her as a doctor, either, BTW. Could she weave herself around the politics. NOPE.

Remember Oprah is not just a television personality; she is the head of a major corporation. She did not get as rich as she is by being the vapid socialist she portrays, that is almost certainly an act. She has to have made some hard choices in both politics and business to get where she is today. There is a lot of politics in being becoming a TV personality, and she has risen to the top in a cut-throat field.
The problem I have is that what we know of her is an act carefully built, both on and off camera, to make us believe she is what her show portrays.

She is completely unqualified. I'd like to think that there is no way in hell she would ever get elected.

was the governator qualified?

celebrities can often get lucky.

george clooney's dad didn't, but that's not to say it can't happen. it already has happened.

I think it has to be both at the same time. The only way it will happen is if someone can fuse those two demographics enough to create a significant amount of party jumping. Any one of those factors is probably impossible to overcome, because the other party can tailor a campaign against you, and your core demographic is not large enough to make up for the anti-demographic. But both would make a very strong demographic, and be very seriously politically incorrect to make a tailored campaign against your strengths (those mainly being sex and race.)

I understand that, but still no. Same as Martha Stewart, H311 N0. It isn't the same.

Well, we don't have to worry about Martha Stewart. She is also a felon. I believe that makes her ineligible.

Schwarzenegger? I like his ideas and I think he has shown a genuine interest and knowledge of politics for many many years. So yes, I think he is qualified.

I've never seen or heard anything about her views on politics. Nor have I heard anything from her to make me think that she's highly intelligent.

Sorry, I wouldn't vote for her.

I might actually vote for Hilary Clinton if the Republicans put up another idiot like our current president. I would have voted for Colin Powell if he ran.

Yup.... but still. Bush ate a brownie once right... didn't stop him ;) Plus, we are talking hypotheticals.

Really I don't understand the problems that most people have with Martha Stewart and Oprah. I don't like their shows, but I can't see how they would make worse politicians then we normally get. I mean they could not be worse then either Clinton.
I get the sneaking suspicion that the real reason you have is that they are feminine and you have been raised believing that feminine equals vapid.

EDIT: I just wanted to point out that by YOU I don't mean DaShen in specific, but eveyone that just says 'she would be terrible' with no real reason.

Yes! I got nominated for something!

Seriously, this is just a sore subject with me. I can't stand all the people - and based on what you've said here, you are included in that list - that base their votes on one thing and forego all other issues. Things such as "They're the most pro-life" or "It's a girl!" It just drives me nuts.

And yes, it does seem like you're stretching REALLY far to try and assume that since people have found flaws with all the Presidents and all the Presidents have been men that we need to let a woman try. I'm not against a woman President, but I am against voting for women just because they're not men.
finally a civil response.

This might come as quite a shock to you, but there's probably a reason you're confronted with so many "less than civil" responses...

Look within, dear.

Had our party had something better to offer than John "I'll pander to anyone who will listen" Kerry, there might have been a better outcome.

You'll rarely hear me defending any of Bush's policies, but I honestly think he was the better of the two choices in the last election. I think with Kerry we'd all just be wondering about aimlessly.

i'd like to see a woman in the White House, because the men aren't cutting it.

I think you just say things to get reactions. Nobody is REALLY that stupid. Good job.

I agree......

damn Oprah huggers

yes, corrupt, slithering, slimy dirtbags, all of them. so we should give women a chance to prove they aren't or won't be that.

Because we all know women are, absolutely and without exception, straighforward, logical, and most certainly level headed.

What qualities of women are you alluding to that would prevent them from being equally "corrupt, slithering, slimy"?

I still fail to make the feminazi connection. Please point it out to me. Perhaps you're referring to the last quote, where she refers to politicians as "corrupt, slithering, slimy dirtbags"?
She says that men aren't cutting it (a generalization, for those taking score at home), and wants a woman in there for the sole reason that women haven't done it before. It's typical man-hating. Why do I have to act like that makes sense?

moshquerade, tell me if I'm wrong: you want a woman in office because you think men can't do the job right, correct?
no.
i'd like to see a woman have a chance.

up and down this board and the nation there are complaints about every President since Washington, and with each Presidency it gets worse. so i say give a female a chance.

There would still be complaints......complaints doesnt mean failure.....people complained about Lincoln. If it wasnt for him, we wouldnt even be having this stupid argument about a black female President.

I'd like a pie too......but then again, you probably dont know how to make one.
