There are complaints about every President, SO WHAT?! Please don't tell me that you believe that ANYONE could be President and not get SOME complaints. Please tell me that's not what you're saying.

Yes! I got nominated for something!

Seriously, this is just a sore subject with me. I can't stand all the people - and based on what you've said here, you are included in that list - that base their votes on one thing and forego all other issues. Things such as "They're the most pro-life" or "It's a girl!" It just drives me nuts.

And yes, it does seem like you're stretching REALLY far to try and assume that since people have found flaws with all the Presidents and all the Presidents have been men that we need to let a woman try. I'm not against a woman President, but I am against voting for women just because they're not men.

first america would have to vote for a black man as president. then a white woman...then maybe americans will be ready for a black woman. You cant just cut the line like that. Americans dont stand for line cutters

edit: Id like to cast my vote for President Palmer

I think that most people are not this way, and it is a very limited view that allows you to see it like this.

I think what you are seeing is that there is almost NO difference between the platforms of the different candidates. None of them are willing to take a stand on too many issues, because that would splinter their support too much. So, each election we get one or two major issues that we have to base our decision on, because the candidates won?t tell us their view on the other issues.
When anyone presses for answers we get statements that essentially says, ?I?m for lowering taxes, increasing spending, balancing the budget, paying off the deficit, being tough on crime, improving education, and anything else you want!? The only thing that they don?t seem to like is consequences. I guess they make for bad politics.
If someone does vote on one thing, I think it is most likely party. The label of Republican or Democrat is so important to many people that they never even consider if the person they are voting for is worth their vote or not. Sometimes I feel like every election is a damn high school prep rally. ?Bush, Bush, he?s our man! I he can?t do it Cheney can!? Bah, nothing more then brand loyalty.
In case you can't tell, I'm feeling a little cynical today.

her show is cultish and sappy. i see no presidential material besides her ability to pander to women. its like saying dr phil would make a good president. course either would be better than the current occupant, then again a piece of dog sh*t would be too.

no way!

hillary clinton >> oprah

condi rice >> oprah

I would vote for either Hilary or Condi, but not Oprah. Unless she gave me a house or something on her show, then I would consider it.

are people here that insane? oprah is probably the most influential woman in the country, and is a hell of a lot smarter than anyone here. if she decides to run for president someday, (or any elected position, for that matter), she would win in a landslide.

Now, on to the topic, Oprah for President.
I don't know if she would make a good President or not, she has never actually discussed her political views in a realistic way. There is more too politics then feeding the hungry and smoothing over the racial tensions. Before I could vote for her I would have to be sure that she could order troops into a combat zone to protect American interests. That she could negotiate with other world leaders using the strengths of America has her power.
But the question is COULD she run. I think yes. It would take a lot of work. She would have to have a support group that would be willing to hit the pavement and get a lot of her core supporters registered and active in voting. I think that she could fragment traditional party line votes and pull a large number of women and minority voters. If she did it as an independent the effect would just be chaos and she would lose, but if she joined a party (probably the Democrats) she would stand a good chance, especially since the media would love her. I would still advise her to consider riding as a Vice Presidential candidate for a male Presidential candidate, that way she would not completely ostracize the male vote. Then in four years (the main presidential candidate would have to bow out to her, citing medical problems) she would be almost the perfect political candidate, assuming that her term as Vice President had been successful.
Understand that I don?t think that a perfect political candidate would necessarily be a good President. Just that she would almost certainly win.

I seriously think she's an intelligent woman - any of you who say she isn't just don't know. But whether she'd make I good president - I can't say. I think that running for president requires a certain ability to backstab, and be ruthless - could she do it? Maybe.

At least we'd have somone in the White House who would be more diplomatic, and probably use more communication than any other president in the past.

Yea 'cause the Repubs are kicking a whole lot of ass.

I weep for the future, period.

Good point. I yearn for a viable third party candidate.

Oprah and Dr. Phil running together as Pres and Vice (regardless of who was on top). That would be the scariest ticket imaginable.

Not only that, could she make life-threatening decisions at a moments notice. I couldn't picture her as a doctor, either, BTW. Could she weave herself around the politics. NOPE.

Smart does not mean good at politics. Neither does influencial all the time. Mother Theresa would not make a good politician. Great leader, bad president. Do you honestly think that the "Arnold" did that great of a job in CA? He is influencial, but....

No way, Oprah would be a good president. I wouldn't vote for her unless she bribed me on her show. ;)

With a republican controlled house and senate, she wouldn't be able to get sh|t done though.
